Interview with Adam Santelli for 13 The Musical

So what is it specifically about musicals and music videos that interests you most as a creative?

Adam: I’ve always been involved in music ever since I was a kid. I am the MTV generation, I was there when there were two videos on MTV. Basically spent most of my time watching MTV through middle school and high school.

I just remember my mom always going, what are you going to do with your life? I’m like, I’m gonna make music videos. And so that’s kind of where it all started, because of that, it just was an easy transition into musicals. And I’m a big musical fan. So a big Broadway fan.

Let’s talk about 13: The Musical and what made you want to work on this project? Did you come across challenges when adapting the stage play and book into the film?

Adam: I’m a big Tamra Davis fan, just that alone kind of got me excited about the project. But then when I read the script and started doing the research, I was like, I have to do it. We’ve all been there and we’ve all had those problems. So in a sense it was one of those kind of projects [and] all the stars have aligned.

The choreographer, Jamal, I know very well, from Descendents 3. It was just a great coming together of people I’ve always wanted to work with, or people I have been wanting to get back together with.

About 13 The Musical

13 The Musical follows 12-year-old Evan Goldman after he leaves New York City following his parents’ divorce. Evan is devastated to leave all his friends, his father, and his rabbi behind. Especially since his Bar Mitzvah is coming up, But upon arriving at his grandmother’s house in small-town Walkerton, Indiana, he hatches a plan to win new friends by turning his Bar Mitzvah into the coolest party ever.

As an outsider, Evan quickly finds out he’s not the only one grappling with the all too familiar anxieties of eighth grade. While his new friends Patrice and Archie fret over the fate of the planet and unrequited love, popular cheerleader Lucy desperately plots to stave off a first kiss between her crush Brett and best friend Kendra. To make matters worse, Evan invites the popular kids to his party—who aren’t fans of Patrice. Evan faces the impossible task of bringing everyone happily together in time for his party, or else risk social ruin. It turns out, 13 isn’t looking as good as he thought it would be.

Disneynature Interview with Directors Alastair Fothergill and Jeff Wilson

Narrated by Catherine Keener, Disneynature’s Polar Bear tells the story of a new mother whose memories of her youth help her raise her cub. But things have changed. Her world is increasingly challenging and different from the one she grew up in.  Alastair Fothergill and Jeff Wilson, the directing team behind Disneynature’s Penguins, helm this film. They craft the bear’s story by going back and examining her days as a cub. By showing how much has changed for this bear during her lifetime, Fothergill and Wilson capture the resiliency and plight of polar bears.

Related: Interview with Tom Kenny and Bill Fagerbakke

Polar Bear is an amazing film and like every other Disneynature outing made me cry at least once. What made you want to focus on polar bears?

Alastair: We’d worked a lot in the arctic with polar bears and we always knew there was an amazing Disneynature film to be made. Polar bears are amazingly beautiful, they have wonderful cubs which is great for Disneynature. More than anything else they are the queens of their worlds… Also, we felt it was a very timely film because polar bears are at the cutting edge of climate change, it’s happening very fast in the arctic. We thought it was a film that had to be made now.

They also explained the difficulty of finding a bear family to work with. After all, polar bears are solitary creatures.

Disneynature Polar Bear starts streaming on Disney+ April 15.

Khonshu’s ushabti is placed on the wall alongside NINE other Egyptian gods. The most recognizable is Anubis. In the comics, Anubis helped Marc when he was trying to escape from Ammit’s illusions. More on that at the end of the episode. If the current Ennead, who is definitely missing members, trapped Anubis, who else have they imprisoned?

Steven and Layla make it inside the tomb of Ammit’s avatar, clearly a wealthy Pharaoh. Bloody mummification tools are at the campsite they raid, however they do not see them. As a result, Layla and Steven wind up in some serious bloody trouble. Inside the tomb, they encounter undead Heka priests and Arthur’s henchman.

Arthur SHOOTS Marc and “kills” him. Or does he? Marc awakens in a mental hospital. Poor Dr. Harrow is only trying to help. There are a lot of familiar faces inside the hospital, even Gus the Goldfish. Marc isn’t sure what to make of all this. If you haven’t read the comics you might equally be confused. Don’t worry that is what we are here for.

More Jake Lockley proof and there is a Hippo goddess.

Layla picks up a fake passport in order to follow Marc to Egypt. Good thing she does that considering he definitely needs her help finding a certain clue to Ammit’s tomb. But before that, Marc and Steven try to get information about Arthur in order to stop him. It doesn’t go as planned and neither of the guys owns up to killing the Ammit followers. Does that mean there is a third identity lurking in the mind? We think so.

This episode introduces MCU fans to Anton Mogart, aka Midnight Man, a comic book foe of Moon Knight. Like in the comics, Anton steals things not because he wants the money but because he likes to collect things. And just like the comics, his encounter with Marc Spector leaves him left for dead… maybe.

After some fancy sky work, Khonshu is imprisoned in a shabti which means Marc/Steven and whoever else is using the body won’t have access to Khonshu’s powers. That could prove to be a big problem next week as the race to get to Ammit’s tomb continues.

Moon Knight Episode 2 Breakdown & Easter Eggs

This week’s episode begins with Steven fired from his job thanks to Marc’s actions the night before–namely destroying a bathroom to kill the attacking jackal. However, the museum only sees Steven lurking around the floor and running from nothing.

In an effort to prove himself NOT crazy, Steven decides he is going to track down the storage locker that goes with the key he found in his apartment. There he discovers not only is Marc real, but he has led a very different life from Steven. Marc wants to take control in order to finish the mission and get away from Khonshu but Steven refuses to give up the body. Khonshu chases Steven outside where he runs into Layla. Layla, who happens to be Marc’s wife.

Arthur Harrow has his cop friends arrest Steven and bring him to his part of London where he attempts to recruit Steven to his side. It doesn’t work and Layla shows up to save him. On the run from the evil magician, Layla tells him to, “Summon the suit.” He does, but it’s not the Moon Knight suit but the Mr. Knight suit. Steven is proud of himself until once again is out of his depth. Then it’s up to Marc to take over and save the night.

But Khonshu has plans–and so does Harrow. Marc needs to get to Egypt before worse things happen.

His dreams seem very realistic, but luckily they are only dreams. Or are they? Moon Knight Episode 1 Breakdown & Easter Eggs

The episode starts with a look at cult leader Arthur Harrow. In the show, he is the leader of the followers of Ammit. In the comics, he is a Nobel Prize candidate for his work in pain theory. The glass thing might be a nod to the former unless they explain it more in future episodes.

Steven Grant wakes up chained to his bed. He does this and many other things around his apartment to reassure himself that he did not get up and wander around in the night. After another day at the museum, Steven attempts to stay away. However, he falls asleep at some point and awakens in a field in Germany. If that castle looks familiar then you too watched Marvel’s What If?

Related: Moon Knight Episode 1 Easter Eggs & Breakdown

The voice of Khonshu is heard, clearly annoyed that Steven once again is in control of the body. After a run-in with Harrow and his goons who are after the golden scarab Steven somehow has in his pocket, he flees. But not before he blacks out again and comes to with bloody fists and a pile of beaten-up bad guys around him.

Some more blacking out, more yelling by Khonshu, and poof Steven wakes up back at home. It was all a dream. Or was it? Harrow has followed him to the museum and sends jackals after him at night. Good thing Marc is around-ish to help.
