The Weekly Bugle Vol 16

WandaVision episode 6 lived up to its Halloween SPOOKtacular name. It was creepy, intense, and left us begging the universe to make it Friday again. What is going on with Hayward and Monica? Billy and Tommy are coming into their own, and Uncle P may not be who he claims to be.

Spoiler warning if you have not watched WandaVision episode 6.

WandaVisions Episode 6 Breakdown

the weekly bugle vol 16 wandavision episode 6 breakdown

This episode packed a lot in despite being shorter than episode 5. Several key things were revealed this week. One – Hayward is DEFINITELY up to no good. We talked Project CATARACT and what it could mean for Vision. Two – Monica still seems nonplussed to learn her DNA has been changed on a molecular level. She shrugs it off leaving us and Woo to question what she isn’t revealing yet.

Related: The Best WandaVision Quotes

Three – Billy and Tommy did get their comic book powers. Whether or not this will save them if Mephisto comes calling remains to be seen. Perhaps, this moment is exactly what the devil was waiting for.

Related: WandaVision’s Hexagons May Be Further Proof Of Mephisto

Four – Vision is still very much dead in the real world. In a traumatic scene, Vision attempts to leave the hex and proceeds to fall apart in front of our eyes. Darcy is the only one who cares.

Related: WandaVision Episode 6 Easter Eggs and Breakdown

Five – The hex has expanded and only Woo, Monica, Hayward, and a handful of other SWORD soldiers made it out. We hope that Monica and Woo got the file Darcy sent off about CATARACT and are able to meet up with her “guy.” Who is that? *cough* Reed Richards *cough*

Finally, Uncle Pietro continued to be shady. He admits he is there to cause her grief, but what kind of grief? We don’t know yet. Faux Pietro has some interesting questions for Wanda and “explanations” for why he looks so different. However, he makes a nasty comment about Vision already being dead, which prompted Wanda to power blast him across Town Square.

It will be interesting to see them interact next week and if we will ever see our beloved MCU Pietro again.

Cherry

We both had the opportunity to screen Tom Holland’s latest Cherry and wow it was brilliant. Tom delivered the best performance of his career while the Russo Bros once again blew us away with their cinematography and direction. This story focuses on tough subject matter and neither the Russo’s or Holland shy away from it.

They bring this semi-autobiographical story to life in a raw, heartbreaking, yet stunning way.

Cherry is in select theaters 2/26 and on AppleTV+ 3/12.

Tom and Jerry The Movie

Another film we screened this week and the complete opposite of Cherry was Tom & Jerry The Movie. We also had the chance to talk with Director, Tim Story, about the movie.

Whether you are a fan of the original cartoons or just looking for a fun, action-packed family film Tom & Jerry is a must-see. All of our kids give it two big thumbs up.

S2E8: The Weekly Bugle Vol 15 WandaVision Episode 5 Breakdown and More!

the weekly bugle vol 15

Welcome back to the Geek Girls’ Universe for The Weekly Bugle Vol 15. This week we are discussing Episode 5 of WandaVision, Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Spider-Man 3, and more!

the weekly bugle vol 15

The Weekly Bugle Vol 15

After this week’s intense episode of WandaVision we spent a lot of time talking about our theories. Does Monica have powers? What’s going on with Hayward? And why did that one person show up at the end?

Spoiler warning if you have not watched WandaVision episode 5.

WandaVision Episode 5

This week WandaVision had viewers both inside and outside of Westview. Inside everything started out in a newborn baby bliss and exhaustion. Outside, SWORD was attempting to run tests on Monica Rambeau. It didn’t work out well though because her x-rays and her bloodwork came back inconclusive. She quickly shoots down any more attempts at gathering data and gets dressed for a meeting with SWORD.

WandaVision Episode 5 podcast

Once again Agent Woo and Dr. Darcy Lewis are amazing. And this is officially a Stan podcast for them now. Not only do they defend Wanda against Hayward’s attempts at painting her as some vicious person but Darcy also calls him a D*%$, which he totally is.

We interrupt this podcast to say we told you so! Hayward is a bad guy and it gets more obvious each week. Why else would he clearly have Vision’s body in a SWORD lab? We have a feeling we know what he is up to.

This episode also showed Vision learning at least a partial truth about what is happening in Westview. And it all comes to a head when he confronts Wanda about it at the end of the episode.

After an emotional scene with the two of them, we know somethings for certain. One: Vision knows something isn’t right and Wanda can’t control him into thinking otherwise. Two: Wanda isn’t 100% in control. A lot of evidence has shown that she isn’t the one pulling all the strings and she confirms it herself right here. Three- these two are going to need each other more than ever to face whatever is out there in Westview.

And that includes her long lost, non-MCU brother Pietro. Or rather Fox’s Quicksilver played by Evan Peters. She looks confused and wary about him showing up. Who is he really? We have our thoughts.

Falcon and The Winter Soldier

During the game, Sunday we were treated to a new trailer for the upcoming Disney+ show Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Agent 13, Sharon Carter is back, has gone rogue, and is kicking butt all over the place. Sam and Bucky are in couple’s counseling because despite Cap putting the two of them together they have still have a lot of issues to work out. It’s hilarious really.

The big takeaway is that Zemo is not only back but still on a mission to wipe out the existence of superheroes. He is an intriguing villain because he is not super-powered but rather super smart. His possible organization ties could lead to The Thunderbolts or the Masters of Evil which brings us to Spider-Man 3.

Spider-Man 3

It’s been a while since we talked about Spider-Man 3 rumors. Tom Holland in a recent interview with Variety said “I can say that it’s the most ambitious standalone superhero movie ever made.” That’s a BIG statement, Tom, especially after the likes of Captain America Civil War.

He also said he doesn’t know anything about Maguire or Garfield’s involvement in the film.

Willem Dafoe, however, has been spotted on set. He will reportedly be reprising his role as Green Goblin. How is he back since he died in the original film? We won’t know until the movie is out, but we all know when it comes to comic books no one is ever truly dead.

the weekly bugle vol 14 wandavision breakdown

Hey friends! Welcome back for The Weekly Bugle Vol 14. This week we are discussing Episode 4 “We Interrupt This Program” of WandaVision, new film releases like Malcolm and Marie, Coda, and more!

The Weekly Bugle Vol 14

Another week of WandaVision means we have more theories, questions, and favorite moments. It seems like the main question of who is behind the fake reality was answered but we know that with Marvel the obvious answer might not always be 100% reality.

Spoiler warning if you have not watched WandaVision episode 4.

the weekly bugle vol 14

WandaVision Episode 4 “We Interrupt This Program” Breakdown

This week’s episode of WandaVision took audiences outside the bubble and into the real world of the MCU. Monica’s mother, Maria Rambeau founded SWORD and died of cancer. Heartbreaking.

Join our Facebook Group

Monica heads to New Jersey to help everyone’s favorite FBI agent Jimmy Woo to track down not only his missing person but the missing town of Westview. We find out how Monica gets inside the bubble and Dr. Darcy Lewis from the Thor movies returns. Darcy figures out it is a broadcast and that they can watch what is happening in Westview on TV. She and Woo have the best scenes and fans are wanting to see more of them, us included.

The show ends with a very jarring look at DEAD Vision, dead dead Vision not sorta dead Vision before returning back to its happy-go-lucky sitcom format.

Related: Wandavision Episode 4 Breakdown and Easter Eggs

It seemed that a major question was answered: Who is controlling the sitcom reality? Wanda. Monica and Wanda both make it clear Wanda is in control, but since when is anything THAT easy to figure out in the MCU? Sure, Wanda maybe in control but she’s not the only one in control. And more proof of Mephisto could be hiding right within that hexagonal shape.

What We Are Watching

We could go on forever about WandaVision and our theories, but we also wanted to highlight some of the recent indie films, Sundance festival offerings, and other movies we have watched in the past week.

Coda premiered at Sundance last week and was picked up by Apple TV for $25M! The film centers around a hearing child in a deaf family who finds herself torn between pursuing her love of music and her family’s reliance on her to be their connection to the outside world.

Palmer starring Justin Timberlake is now available on Apple TV. Finding ‘Ohana is now streaming on Netflix. This is a family-friendly film that follows two siblings from Brooklyn who return to Hawaii to connect with their Hawaiian heritage. They end up on a daring quest that has some definite Goonies vibes.

The Night, available to rent on Amazon, is about an Iranian couple living in the US who become trapped inside a hotel when insidious events force them to face the secrets that have come between them, in a night that never ends.

Related: The Night Film Review | Intense Psychological Thriller

We both screened this one and found it to be brilliant. The story-telling takes nods from The Shining but manages not to fall back on the classic or try and copy it. It uses Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece as a starting-off point and then makes something truly unique.

the night movie

Malcom & Marie coming to Netflix Feb. 5 is one of Jana’s favorite films from the last several months. It stars John David Washington and Zendaya as the title characters, a director and his girlfriend, whose relationship is tested on the night of his latest film’s premiere. It masterfully shows the chaos of their relationship, the volatility, and the love.

The Weekly Bugle Vol 11

Hey friends! Welcome back for The Weekly Bugle Vol 11. We have a lot to look forward to this week with the premiere of WandaVision. Before it kicks off, we had to get a few last-minute predictions in.

The Weekly Bugle Vol 11

The Weekly Bugle Vol 11

We spent the bulk of our time chatting about WandaVision, but there were some other exciting MCU confirmations, a ton of 2021 movies coming out, and one big predicted dumpster fire.

WandaVision

We are rejoicing because it is WandaVision week! WandaVision officially kicks off with 2 episodes on Disney+ this Friday. Plus, we will be getting screeners ahead of the premiere. You’ll have to watch our accounts to see our reactions.

There was a big press junket where Kevin Feige shared quite a bit not only about WandaVision but also about the MCU as a whole. Some of the things confirmed had long been rumored and were practically fact, but it is nice to hear him say the things we’ve been saying for a while now.

The Weekly Bugle Vol 11

Monica Rambeau is confirmed for Captain Marvel 2 and her story will be told in WandaVision. We think it will lean heavily on how/when she gets her powers. Plus we know she is a confirmed member of SWORD, which is like the Space SHIELD, so that will be interesting as well.

Feige also shared that the show will feature “commercials” that will callback to previous MCU films. Hopefully, some meme-worthy commercials pop up.

2020 Movies We Loved And One We Didn’t

Being music nerds we gushed over Hamilton and Soul. There are a few we both haven’t seen, but since we are about to go into another round of lockdowns (probably) we will have plenty of time to watch.

We are interviewing Steven Boyle head of creatures for Love and Monsters next week. If you haven’t watched Love and Monsters and love a good, fun, not-so-gruesome “scary” movie, you need to check it out. We both liked it a lot and hope they make another one.

If you’re into gruesome then Spontaneous is for you. Jana thought it was kinda ET-esque in a way, might seem like a random comparison but she makes a good argument for it.

Looking Ahead To The Year Of Marvel aka 2021

We don’t believe that on January 1st all will be right in the world, but we do know that 2021 is going to be the year of Marvel. After being lost in a desert without our favorite superheroes, they are coming back and in full force.

First up is WandaVision, our first look into what Marvel Phase 4 has in store for us. And while this show might still seem a little quirky, we believe it is going to be CRUCIAL to the multiverse happenings coming in Loki, Doctor Strange 2, and Spider-Man 3.

vote for loki

There is also everyone’s favorite god Loki doing some time traveling, conducting heists, and running for president? Sure why not. TBH we would vote for him. LOL

On a less multiverse-insane level will be the more grounded yet still exciting The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Bucky Barnes, Sam Wilson, Zemo, we are here for all of it.

The Mandalorian Season 2 The Rescue

The last episode of The Mandalorian was fun, but we knew this one was going to take us on an adventure. Little did we know just how much of a roller coaster it would be, emotionally speaking. Peyton Reed delivered one hell of a ride for this episode. From Luke’s Darth Vader Rogue One-like entrance to the extra dose of girl power, The Rescue had us feeling all sorts of things.

We discuss what we thought of the episode and where we think season 3 will take Mando, the darksaber, and Grogu. PS, Kylo Ren don’t even think about it.

Spider-Man 3 Casting News

It’s been another week and more casting news/rumors have surfaced for Spider-Man 3. Seriously though does someone, anyone have a flow chart we could borrow for this?

This time Hannibal Buress and Martin Starr are set to be back as Peter’s teachers. The former being the gym teacher and the latter his academic decathlon coach. This announcement isn’t so left field at least and was more or less suspected to be true anyway.

Ahsoka Live-Action Series

We didn’t really get into the Star Wars news too much last week, but this week we decided to talk about the one we are probably the most excited for–Ahsoka flipping Tano.

Ahsoka not only means more Ahsoka it means a live-action Thrawn, Ezra, and Sabine are totally possible and basically guaranteed. With Filoni helming this one, and his love for Ahsoka, we know its going to be great. We have some thoughts though and hopefully he listens.

The Mandalorian Season 2 The Believer

The Believer saw fan favorite Migs Mayfield and Mando teaming up to gain the info needed to track down Moff Gideon. Things never go as planned though and improvising is a must. Poor Mando even breaks the creed all for the love of Baby Yoda.

We, too, would also break sacred oaths to save the baby, tbh.

This episode saw some callbacks to Rogue One and a hilarious Office Space quote. It ends with Mando telling Gideon in a hologram that he’s coming for the kid and Moff has no idea what he is up against. All we can imagine is Din is assembling the Star Wars Avengers to get Grogu back.

Loki Trailer

Disney Investor Day came and it was like the holidays came early for us geeks. You get a trailer, you get a trailer, you get a trailer! One of the most highly anticipated shows coming to Disney Plus is Loki and we finally have more than a seconds glimpse at our favorite god of mischief.

It started out simple enough, 2012 Loki in Avengers Endgame stealing the tesseract and going about his business. Typical Loki. Then we see he has been captured by the TVA. The Time Variance Authority, try to govern a significant number of realities in the multiverse.

Blink and you might miss it but someone who looks an awful lot like Natasha aka Black Widow is seen sitting on a rock. We all know Loki can shape-shift and he’s not the only one with that power, but who knows, maybe he ends up in the past or in the future with Nat.

Throughout the trailer we see different versions of Loki and a mysterious hooded figure. We have some thoughts as to who that might be. It ends with a callback to the 2016 comic series Vote Loki.

Falcon and The Winter Soldier Trailer

After the Disney+ TV spot that seemed forever ago we finally got to see what Sam and Bucky are getting into in the new series.

The banter, the side-eye, and respect is still there. Classic Marvel humor check, killer action check, Bucky Barnes and Same looking good double-check. They are chasing after Flag-Smasher (aka one of the worst villain names ever) and might even have to team up with Zemo to take her down.

It appears based on this trailer Stark Industries is still funding superhero adventures, US Agent is definitely a bad guy (no shocker there), and Isaiah Bradley, the first black Captain America from the 2003 comic miniseries Truth: Red, White, and Black might also be shown or at the very least mentioned.

WandaVision Trailer

WandaVision’s second trailer answered some questions while creating others. And after that shot of the mysterious beekeeper and radio message, we don’t think it is Wanda who is controlling the chaos and trapping everyone in suburban hell.

Some other interesting takeaways were further confirmation Agnes is indeed Agatha Harkness, Monica Rambeau is also trapped in the neighborhood, and Wanda’s children’s superpowers will be featured. The butterfly effect COULD have been Wanda’s doing but most likely was Wiccan.

We are a little over a month away from the premiere of WandaVision and we cannot wait. Let Marvel Phase 4 begin!

Marvel’s What If?

The weekly bugle vol 8 didn’t focus too much on this one because honestly we could’ve kept talking and talking and talking about all the marvel news. However, we are super excited about this one.

Which What If? story are you looking forward to the most?

Spider-Man 3 Casting News

Can we even keep track at this point who is returning?? Even Tom Holland is getting in on the jokes, laughing at rumors of Mark Hamill reprising his role as Luke Skywalker in the film.

Charlie Cox will return as Daredevil which makes us happy. Several times our #MarvelMondays Twitter chats have talked about this possibility. Peter needs a lawyer, Matt is a lawyer, Charlie Cox was awesome on the show–win-win.

the weekly bugle vol 8

The other exciting announcement is that Alfred Molina will be back as Doc Ock. He was last seen in the Maguire led films of the early 2000s.  Kirsten Dunst and Andrew Garfield are reportedly reprising roles with Maguire is still in talks with Marvel/Sony.

Sources say MOST of these returning characters will be quick fan service and that it’s still Holland’s movie, which is relief. If this was any other studio other than Marvel Studios handling this many characters in a film we would be worried.

Warner Bros Streaming Plans For 2021 Not Everyone Is Happy

Spoilers ahead if you haven’t seen The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode Six The Tragedy.

The Mandalorian Season 2 The Tragedy

If you thought last week’s episode of The Mandalorian was going to be a filler one, you’re not alone. We did too. But it most definitely was not. From Boba Fett’s epic return to the dire circumstances, Grogu was left in, there was a lot going on in this short episode.

Boba Fett IS a Mandalorian. After forever of is he or isn’t he, it has now been made canon that yes Jango AND Boba are BOTH Mandalorians. Not only is Boba a Mando but he also still has some bounty hunter butt-kicking moves. He donned his infamous armor and made short work of the Stormtroopers. He even used his missile to take out the ships. Classic.

We also saw the Dark Troopers in action and although it is still unclear if they are Force-sensitive, they definitely look like evil droids.

This Avengers-like squad is gearing up to save Grogu. Mandalorians Assemble!

Spider-Man 3

Zendaya was recently on with Jimmy Kimmel and he tried his best to get her to spill the beans about whether or not there are Spider-MEN in the film. She did not let on to anything, but we didn’t really expect her to.

However, an interesting YouTube takedown might shed some light on this one.

Wonder Woman 1984

Wonder Woman 1984 reviews have started to come in. So far they seem mostly positive, but this has happened before with DC films. The first looks can be good, but once the broader audience views it, it tanks.

We have not watched it yet, but we do have some thoughts, and some might not be very popular.

Warner Brothers Streaming Entire 2021 Release Slate

In a surprising move, Warner Bros has announced it will be releasing its 2021 films in theaters and HBO Max simultaneously like they are doing for Wonder Woman 1984. This is an interesting strategy and one based on the likelihood of WW doing well this way. They also circumvent having to change release dates by doing this.

However, not everyone is happy about the decision. Legendary the studio putting out Dune and Godzilla vs Kong is challenging this and has already sent a letter. Grab your popcorn folks, this one could get messy.

The Mandalorian Season 2 The Jedi

Dave Filoni BROUGHT IT in this week’s episode. We meet Ahsoka Tano, where Mando finds her in the forest of Corvis. He tells her that Bo-Katan sent him. She meets The Child and is able to communicate with him through The Force.

She learns he was raised and trained at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. After the fall of the Republic, he was evacuated from the Temple and has been suppressing his powers to survive all these years.

Photo: Disney+

This week’s big reveal: we learn The Child’s name–Grogu. The internet is definitely at odds as to how they feel about his name. We believe most people will probably still refer to him as Baby Yoda. WIll you? Leave a comment or tweet us @whiskynsunshine and @thatashleyerin.

Mando and Ahsoka team up to free the prisoners in Calodan.

“A Mandalorian and a Jedi? They’ll never see it coming.” -Mando

The other big points we discussed were regarding Ahsoka mentioning she is on the hunt for Grand Admiral Thrawn and the Beskar weapon that was won from Imperial Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth of Calodan.

During the fight between Ahsoka and the Imperial Magistrate, the Beskar staff could not be defeated by Ahsoka’s TWO lightsabers. Our theory? The Beskar staff will be needed to defeat the Darksaber. When Ahsoka wins against the magistrate, she is forced to divulge the location of her master, Thrawn. If Thrawn is also alive, which of our other favorite Rebels will we see as live-action characters?

Photo: Disney+

Manda-LORE – The Beskar Staff

About the Beskar staff…something we didn’t talk about on the podcast but you get here because it’s worth talking about. One theory? It is possible the Beskar staff is actually a bevii’ragir, a traditional Mandalorian hunting spear.

The bevii’ragir features a removable weighted counterbalance on the flat end of the staff that serves as a weapon in combat or as walking stick. While not canon, the bevii’ragir was introduced in the 2008 Star Wars: Republic Commando novel Order 66–and when has universe material vs. canon ever stopped Filoni? I mean, just look at Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Batuu, Blue Milk, and the Gungan

This week, Ashley joined us from a Galaxy Far, Far Away. Okay, I guess it wasn’t *that* far, but far enough. On location in Batuu (East Coast), Ashley called in for our Weekly Bugle recording, complete in her Ahsoka Tano Disneybound.

Ashley also thanked me for recommending the Blue Milk with Rum. I’ve been touting how it’s my favorite of all the versions, alcoholic and non in Disney Parks, and now she can confirm she feels the same.

I also cursed her once again with the Gungan. You’ll have to listen to the episode to know how!

‘Til the Spire, friends!

Spoilers ahead if you haven’t seen The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode Four The Siege.

The Mandalorian Season 2 The Siege

Just when you thought Baby Yoda couldn’t be any cuter, he goes to school. We have never felt more seen than when he used The Force to get cookies. Now if only that would work while waiting in line at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge…

The big reveal for this week came at the end when we saw just what Moff Gideon has been up to. Those are DARK TROOPERS. Most likely these are based on the 2014 mobile game Star Wars: Commander characters of the same name. They even look the part. It will be interesting to see if they are a type of droid, clone, or super clone with dark force abilities.

Either way, Din, The Child, and all their friends are in for a big fight.

Dark Troopers

Next week Chapter 13 is supposedly titled “The Jedi.” With Dave Filoni directing, that could mean Ahsoka flipping Tano. Finally!

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier

Sebastian Stan shared a behind-the-scenes picture of him relaxing in a chair. You can’t see much except that clearly he and Mackie are going to have that great banter they had in Civil War. It looks like Bucky isn’t over Sam not moving his seat.

Loki

Rumors are going around that more than one version of Loki will feature in the upcoming  Disney+ series. And no, Tom Hiddleston will not be playing them all. Reportedly Richard E. Grant has been cast to play “classic Loki”, while kid Loki has been mentioned before, as well. But the real question is will Lady Loki show up too?

Lady Loki

Jamie Alexander, Lady Sif, shared on Instagram that she was headed to Atlanta for work. Loki is currently filming in Atlanta which makes it likely Lady Sif will make her MCU return. Finally! In our opinion, she has been gone way too long.

Wonder Woman 1984 to HBO Max

WW84 will debut on HBO Max the same day as it hits theaters. This is an interesting strategy for DC. Depending on the success it may point to what other studios will do in the future.

In case you were wondering, we still want to see Black Widow in IMAX.

Justice League The Snyder Cut

For YEARS DC fans have begged, campaigned, and cried for The Snyder Cut. That wish is coming true. The Snyder Cut is coming to HBO Max in 2021. HBO released the trailer and well, we have some thoughts.

Hallelujah was overdone in the trailer. And it was hard to see but is Henry’s lip fixed for real this time? There are a lot of other thoughts but you’ll have to listen to the show to hear them. Leave your comments below and let us know if you agree.

But seriously, after the massive letdown of Justice League are you looking forward to this?

Scream 5 is Scream

Filming has wrapped on Scream 5 aka Scream. It is an interesting name choice (the original is named Scream) but at least the OG cast is back together. Now let’s see what dummy runs upstairs or loudly goes “who’s there?!”

In my best Titus voice, “What white nonsense is this?”

We Can Be Heroes

This is a follow up to Sharkboy and Lavagirl. Nope, Taylor Lautner is not in it. And the story follows the daughter of the two original heroes.

TBH never watched the first one but are you excited about it?

Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion

Last week the trailer dropped, this week we saw the reunion. I’m just happy the OG Aunt Viv and Will made nice after all these years. She did not hold back either.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion is available on HBO Max.

Animaniacs

The Animaniacs are back and as funny as ever. The cyclops bit had me in tears! Plus Pinky and The Brain trying to go viral?! We could relate.

Animaniacs is available to stream on Hulu.

American Housewife

It’s Thanksgiving week, which means lots of fun holiday-themed episodes. One we are both excited about is American Housewife. Katy starts a vlog and goes viral for having a meltdown while trying to homeschool Anna-Kat and Franklin. I think we can all relate because distance learning SUCKS!!!
