The moment we have all been waiting for, Loki is finally here and he has a GLORIOUS purpose. Episode 1 included the TVA, Mobius, and the reason Loki isn’t reset for his crimes. Oh and just a revelation that a few someones may have died for nothing. Are you ready for this Loki episode 1 breakdown?
This is your spoiler warning if you have not watched Episode 1 of Loki “Glorious Purpose.”
The episode started off right where we left Loki, escaping the Avengers in 2012 using the Tesseract. He leaves NYC and lands in the Gobi Desert, Unfortunately, the people living there don’t seem to care who he is but the TVA does.
Hunter B 15 and her Minute Men appear and arrest Loki for crimes against the sacred timeline. They use an interesting weapon against him, the Time Twister, which has some comic book origins. At the TVA Loki watches an instructional video featuring Miss Minutes that catches us all up on who the TVA is and what they do.
Long story short the Time Keepers created the TVA to guard the timeline after they saved it from a multiverse war. Throw in a few comic book Easter eggs and even a Disney Parks one and it was a very interesting video.
The Avengers botched Time Heist and their time traveling, which Loki figured out by the way, is dismissed by Judge Renslayer as something that was suppose to happen. Easy way out on that one Marvel but we aren’t mad about it. Time Travel is hard. For comic fans if Renslayer’s name sounds familiar it’s because Ravonna Renslayer just happened to be Kang The Conqueror’s lady love. Kang is the villain in Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania. Is Renslayer sus? We have some thoughts.
In order to show Loki the TVA is real, he sees events in his life that haven’t happened yet. We are forced to live through his saddest moments (rude) and cry as he cries. Loki escapes, naturally, and discovers a drawer full of… wait for it… INFINITY STONES. Excuse me TVA. We have some questions. Why didn’t you help the Avengers? Black Widow and Gamora died for nothing? And Vision? Wanda is going to want to have a chat with you.
It ends with confirmation that our original theory about the Variant was true. They need Loki’s help because the dangerous Variant IS Loki. We can’t share about Episode 2 yet but trust us, it just gets even wilder from here.
Welcome back to the Geek Girls’ Universe for The Weekly Bugle Vol 26. This week we are talking about Russell Crowe as Zeus, Mortal Kombat, Shadow and Bone, and more.
If you don’t know Zeus in the comics is similar to his mythological counterpart. In this film, he is likely to be at war with the Asgardians, which happens in the comics. He and Odin eventually make peace, however, MCU Odin is dead. Zeus also has ties to the Eternals, which have their own upcoming film in the MCU. This connection could tie both films together.
We might be critics but we like to pride ourselves on the fact we aren’t like others. Basically, we don’t set out to hate (or love) a movie simply because we think it will get us clicks or points.
Will Mortal Kombat win an Oscar for Best Screenplay? Nope. Is that the point of this movie? Also nope. It’s a video game movie. If you’re looking for some carnage and flawless victories, this is your movie. The script isn’t the best, and no, there is no Mortal Kombat tournament, but they are trying to set up a series, so if you view it as one it makes more sense.
Shadow and Bone
One of us hasn’t watched it yet and the other has seen 2 episodes. But her daughter has binged the entire series twice. That takes dedication.
Shadow and Bone is hot right now on Netflix and for good reason. This best-selling book series has been brought to life. Shadow and Bone finds us in a war-torn world where lowly soldier and orphan Alina Starkov has just unleashed an extraordinary power that could be the key to setting her country free. With the monstrous threat of the Shadow Fold looming, Alina is torn from everything she knows to train as part of an elite army of magical soldiers known as Grisha. But as she struggles to hone her power, she finds that allies and enemies can be one and the same and that nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. There are dangerous forces at play, including a crew of charismatic criminals, and it will take more than magic to survive.
Captain America 4
Marvel Studios is bringing back The Falcon and the Winter Soldier head writer Malcolm Spellman to write the screenplay for Captain America 4 which will feature Sam Wilson as Captain America.
After that ending of Falcon and Winter Soldier (we break the finale down right here) we cannot wait to see more of Sam as Cap and hopefully Bucky too.
We get into some other Dory moments.. or maybe Dug… Squirrel!! But we appreciate you going down those rabbit holes as always! Give a listen. You’ll never believe what Ben Barnes and Tim Rozon have in common.
For the latest episode of the Geek Girls Universe Podcast, we sat down for an interview with Jon Levine your soon-to-be favorite friendly neighborhood TVA clerk. That’s right, Jon is part of the new series Loki.
Interview with Jon Levine
One of the standout moments in the new Loki trailer was when Loki ended up in the TVA’s version of the DMV. Only instead of waiting forever for your number to be called, you have to verify everything you’ve ever said. Absurd. Yikes.
In the room we see an adorable cat, that may or may not be a Flerken, and the paperwork clerk in charge of getting Loki to sign off on an inordinate amount of papers. That clerk is none other than Jon Levine.
We couldn’t wait to talk with Jon about his time on the Loki set. Naturally, we wanted all the details but we know how those pesky NDAs work. However, he shared what he could including what it was like working with the god of mischief himself. From what he told us, that scene is going to be awesome.
As with all our guests, we asked him about his favorite fandoms, characters, and movies, which included a little tangent about Taika Waititi because how can you not. Jon also talked about Cobra Kai, Flerkens, and a lot more.
About Jon Levine
Jon Levine is an actor and standup comedian who lives in Atlanta, Georgia. Jon has appeared in several films, TV shows, and commercials throughout his career as an actor. He has had roles on shows such as Cobra Kai and the upcoming Marvel Studios’Loki.
As a stand-up comedian, Jon has performed in a multitude of standup shows across the country as the host, guest, and featured comedian, as well as numerous corporate and private events. Jon has been the emcee at Belushi’s Comedy Club in Fort Myers, the Comedy Zone Sunny Isles Beach, and the Improv in West Palm Beach.
Welcome back to the Geek Girls’ Universe for The Weekly Bugle Vol 23. This week we are talking about the hot new Loki trailer, Black Widow footage, Space Jam, surprise Phase 4 cameos, and more.
This past week we got a new look at Black Widow, Loki, plus the Space Jam 2 trailer. Bruce Campbell continued to tease a cameo in Doctor Strange 2 and we got confirmation about another Sam Raimi favorite.
And although we talked a bit about Sharon Carter and how she relates to the Power Broker in our Falcon and Winter Soldier Episode 3 Breakdown, we decided we should go into a little more detail. However, we want to hear your opinions. Who do you think the Power Broker is?
Black Widow Final Trailer
The new Black Widow trailer was released to celebrate the set-in-stone release date of July 9. Finally, Widow is coming. We think it will feel like seeing a Marvel movie for the first time because it has been so long!
Not only did Marvel share a peek at young Natasha and a young Red Guardian but they revealed the best look yet of Taskmaster. Taskmaster is a very interesting villain and will prove to be a massive challenge for Nat. Not to mention we know some other Widows are running around. Good thing she has her family by her side.
Seriously though, Budapest needs to feature here. Somewhere…
Marvel dropped the new Loki trailer and in case you haven’t watched it do yourselves a favor and do that now.
Is that a Flerken we spy? Who knows but when we see a cat hanging out outside of Earth we automatically think Flerken. Loki is as charming as ever and clearly, has a thing or two up his sleeves. But you can TOTALLY trust him Mobius.
Bruce Campbell Cameo in Doctor Strange 2
A few months back Bruce Campbell tweeted about working on a movie in a city with some people and that it was great. The image he shared was of London where Doctor Strange 2 just happened to be filming.
Then on April 1st (yes April Fools), he tweeted a piece of the supposed script where his character, the disheveled man speaks to Dr. Strange. He has been known to troll fans before, like last April when he teased a return of Brisco County Jr. However, with his other tweet and the fact Sam Raimi is working on this film…perhaps Bruce might actually be in the movie.
Welcome to the Jam! The new Space Jam trailer dropped, and we had some thoughts. As fans of the original, this one looks like it is going to be a lot of fun. At the end of the day, Zendaya (who is voicing Lola Bunny) better get to sing! We need another anthem like I Believe I Can Fly but you know sung by someone who isn’t that one person.
Last week, we broke down episode 2 of Falcon and Winter Soldier, and episode 3, “Power Broker” is now streaming on Disney+. It gave us a lot of callbacks to previous MCU films, comics, and the team-up we didn’t know we needed. Yes, that’s right Zemo is now teaming up with our guys to find out the deal behind the super-soldier serum.
Of course, we have some new theories about where this series might be headed and what future MCU properties it ties into.
This is your spoiler warning if you haven’t watched Episode 3 of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
Falcon and Winter Soldier Episode 3 Breakdown
The show starts off with a commercial commending the virtues of the Global Repatriation Council, but as we know from experience, these types of organizations are rarely as saintly as they appear. Walker and Hoskins are attempting to capture Karli Morgenthau and failing. In another nod to #NotMyCap, Walker loses it on a prisoner yelling in his face screaming, “Do you know who I am?” Bless this random guy because he says what we are all thinking. “Yes. I do. And I don’t care.” It’s true, we don’t care about you. Moving on.
Bucky manages to break Zemo out of a high max security facility a la Ocean’s 11 style. Zemo reveals that he is wealthy, ahem, he is a Baron in case you don’t read the comics like Sam.
In Madripoor, a frequent haunt in the X-Men comics we see nods to that franchise and get a few more comic Easter eggs including Sam’s disguise as the Smiling Tiger. That disguise has ties to a certain upcoming MCU property… just saying. In the city, they search for the doctor responsible for the creation of the new super serum. Before they can find him, trouble comes round, because of course, it does.
Sharon Carter returns to help save their butts. She is more cynical than ever and for good reason. They manage to find Dr. Nagel and learn that the Flag Smashers have stolen all the Super Soldier Serum he was able to create.
A new lead has the three co-workers traveling to Riga where Bucky leaves Sam and Zemo to take a walk. Turns out he has called in a friend who you may recognize and who definitely wants Zemo in jail.
The episode is called Power Broker, yet he is never revealed. Some theories point to Sharon being the Power Broker, perhaps it is Zemo, or maybe it’s someone we haven’t seen in a while. What do you think?
Last week, we broke down episode 1 of Falcon and Winter Soldier, and episode 2, “Star-Spangled Man” is now streaming on Disney+. It gave us more US Agent, which had our blood boiling and also featured a hilarious, yet heartbreaking, therapy session.
We would love to know how you feel about budget Cap, how they are pushing him onto the world, and when you think his true colors will show. Leave a comment or tweet with us.
This is your spoiler warning if you haven’t watched Episode 2 of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
Falcon and Winter Soldier Episode 2 Breakdown
The show begins with John Walker reliving his glory days at his old high school before taking the field to show off his new title of Captain America. His partner Hoskins who reveals his alias later as Battlestar is also there.
Unlike Steve who hated the pomp and circumstance that surrounded his forced stage shows as Captain America, Walker is reveling in them, taking selfies, signing autographs like a gloried comic con newb. Sam and Bucky watch as this clown parades around with the shield.
They leave to confront the Flag Smashers in Germany where after a battle, Bucky realizes exactly what they are dealing with. Like we mentioned last week these people are strong and now we know why.
This episode did a few things. One, it made us hate John Walker more. Two, it revealed how the Flag Smashers are so powerful. Three, it tackled race in such a poignant and honest way. Four, it made us even more hyped for next week.
John Walker and his buddy Hoskins both have ties to the criminal organization the Power Brokers. The Power Brokers are after the Flag Smashers for stealing what belongs to them, which would be the super-soldier serum that they developed.
We also met Isaiah Bradley, the black Captain America, this week. In the comics and on the show it seems, Isaiah was mercilessly experimented on by both the government and Hydra. Sam also dealt with discrimination for simply being a black man on a street in Maryland.
Our favorite therapist was back and forced our two unlikely friends into a couples’ therapy session. What followed was the most hilarious moment of the show while also being a very heartfelt, tender one as well. After they have a staring contest the heart of their problem is revealed which as often happens in therapy brings them closer together.
Hey friends! Welcome back to The Weekly Bugle Vol 8. We have A LOT to talk about this week with all those Disney Investor Day trailers dropping. 2021 is going to be MARVELous at least in terms of new things to geek out about! We are also going to get into The Mandalorian Chapter 15, all the Spider-Man 3 casting news (it’s hard to keep up right?!), and more!
The Weekly Bugle Vol 8
Spoilers ahead if you haven’t seen The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode Seven The Believer.
The Mandalorian Season 2 The Believer
The Believer saw fan favorite Migs Mayfield and Mando teaming up to gain the info needed to track down Moff Gideon. Things never go as planned though and improvising is a must. Poor Mando even breaks the creed all for the love of Baby Yoda.
We, too, would also break sacred oaths to save the baby, tbh.
This episode saw some callbacks to Rogue One and a hilarious Office Space quote. It ends with Mando telling Gideon in a hologram that he’s coming for the kid and Moff has no idea what he is up against. All we can imagine is Din is assembling the Star Wars Avengers to get Grogu back.
Disney Investor Day came and it was like the holidays came early for us geeks. You get a trailer, you get a trailer, you get a trailer! One of the most highly anticipated shows coming to Disney Plus is Loki and we finally have more than a seconds glimpse at our favorite god of mischief.
It started out simple enough, 2012 Loki in Avengers Endgame stealing the tesseract and going about his business. Typical Loki. Then we see he has been captured by the TVA. The Time Variance Authority, try to govern a significant number of realities in the multiverse.
Blink and you might miss it but someone who looks an awful lot like Natasha aka Black Widow is seen sitting on a rock. We all know Loki can shape-shift and he’s not the only one with that power, but who knows, maybe he ends up in the past or in the future with Nat.
Throughout the trailer we see different versions of Loki and a mysterious hooded figure. We have some thoughts as to who that might be. It ends with a callback to the 2016 comic series Vote Loki.
After the Disney+ TV spot that seemed forever ago we finally got to see what Sam and Bucky are getting into in the new series.
The banter, the side-eye, and respect is still there. Classic Marvel humor check, killer action check, Bucky Barnes and Same looking good double-check. They are chasing after Flag-Smasher (aka one of the worst villain names ever) and might even have to team up with Zemo to take her down.
It appears based on this trailer Stark Industries is still funding superhero adventures, US Agent is definitely a bad guy (no shocker there), and Isaiah Bradley, the first black Captain America from the 2003 comic miniseries Truth: Red, White, and Black might also be shown or at the very least mentioned.
WandaVision’s second trailer answered some questions while creating others. And after that shot of the mysterious beekeeper and radio message, we don’t think it is Wanda who is controlling the chaos and trapping everyone in suburban hell.
Some other interesting takeaways were further confirmation Agnes is indeed Agatha Harkness, Monica Rambeau is also trapped in the neighborhood, and Wanda’s children’s superpowers will be featured. The butterfly effect COULD have been Wanda’s doing but most likely was Wiccan.
We are a little over a month away from the premiere of WandaVision and we cannot wait. Let Marvel Phase 4 begin!
The weekly bugle vol 8 didn’t focus too much on this one because honestly we could’ve kept talking and talking and talking about all the marvel news. However, we are super excited about this one.
Which What If? story are you looking forward to the most?
Spider-Man 3 Casting News
Can we even keep track at this point who is returning?? Even Tom Holland is getting in on the jokes, laughing at rumors of Mark Hamill reprising his role as Luke Skywalker in the film.
Charlie Cox will return as Daredevil which makes us happy. Several times our #MarvelMondays Twitter chats have talked about this possibility. Peter needs a lawyer, Matt is a lawyer, Charlie Cox was awesome on the show–win-win.
The other exciting announcement is that Alfred Molina will be back as Doc Ock. He was last seen in the Maguire led films of the early 2000s. Kirsten Dunst and Andrew Garfield are reportedly reprising roles with Maguire is still in talks with Marvel/Sony.
Sources say MOST of these returning characters will be quick fan service and that it’s still Holland’s movie, which is relief. If this was any other studio other than Marvel Studios handling this many characters in a film we would be worried.
Warner Bros Streaming Plans For 2021 Not Everyone Is Happy
In this week’s what is making a comeback whether it needs to or not is True Blood. Variety has confirmed a reboot is in the early stages at HBO. And again we want to know why?
Hey friends! For several years now we have hosted a weekly Twitter Chat called #MarvelMondays. We decided to take all the awesome news we share there and bring it here to the podcast.
The Weekly Bugle Vol 1
Unlike Marvel Mondays, The Weekly Bugle will feature the latest and greatest in all fandom news, not just Marvel. Without further ado, here is The Weekly Bugle Vol 1.
According to an opinion piece from Screenrant and chatter online, fans have been debating what Thor’s phase 4 arc should be. Some argue that Thor should become the leader of The Avengers while others are leaning towards Captain Marvel.
There are pros and cons to Thor taking the lead and while it makes sense in his story, it also doesn’t. The man, er God, has spent a lot of time and dialogue not being a ruler. But as long as it doesn’t mean Natalie Portman’s Jane takes over we are okay with whatever direction Taika and the MCU is taking Thor.
Shang-Chi and The Eternals are two films we heard announced, got little tidbits for, and then thanks to 2020 it has been radio silence ever since. However, Shang-Chi has wrapped on filming which has everyone speculating when we could see Simu make his debut in costume.
There’s nothing like the feeling of proving the haters wrong so imma save this one for nine months.
Keep doing you in the meantime my dude, and I’ll keep doing me. By which I mean plowing into this box of Tim Tams like it’s the vaccine. #WRAPThoughtshttps://t.co/tSDTPoBdRR
Shang-Chi Teaser in January with a full trailer to come with Black Widow. That of course is if everything stays the course and we have no further derailments to our precious timeline.
WandaVision
Although we have been wandering the desert of no Marvel, there is an oasis on the horizon. WandaVision is coming this December and the trailer offered so many clues as to what maybe coming down the line for Phase 4.
Including a possible hint at the future of a character in Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
Falcon and The Winter Soldier: US Agent will be called Captain America
Minor spoiler for those who have no read the comics or watched any interviews, US Agent will be using the title Captain America at the start of Falcon and The Winter Soldier. In the comics Wyatt takes the mantle when the government deemed Fury to old and Sam Wilson not the right color. Wyatt was already a government agent and begrudgingly took over as Cap for awhile.
US Agent eventually joins up with other superhero teams including the Thunderbolts and the Dark Avengers. Which is interesting due to the Dark Avengers Easter egg in the WandaVision trailer.
“LITTLE BABY JUNE’S FIRST WORD TICKLES MOTHER”
This is the headline on the newspaper Vision is holding. In the comic books June Covington is a part of the Dark Avengers, using the alias Scarlet Witch.
If you’re curious to see more of Ashley’s trailer breakdown go here:
Finally, the Uncharted film is being made and Tom Holland shared a photo of him as Drake on set. We haven’t played the game before but all video game adaptations make us nervous.
The problem with video game adaptations is they are either excellent or garbage. We are hoping for the former for Tom. One thing that is never garbage? Tom Holland.
Speaking of our favorite Spider-Man, Tom Holland has been spotted in Georgia and posted that he has received the script for Spider-Man 3. He says he won’t spill anything because he has learned his lesson but it’s Tom so we think we will get a little something.
Breaking News: Moon Knight
Rumor has it that Oscar Issac is in talks to play Marc Spector in Moon Knight! Major outlets are reporting this news and although he will most likely deny it, we know how those denials usually go. *cough* Paul Rudd *cough*

Welcome back! In this episode we are talking Friend, Marry, Kill Marvel Edition with a special guest. Listen as we decide the fate of MCU characters!
That’s right on this special edition of that popular game, friend stands for a character, actor/actress we like but we are also okay never seeing again. Marry means the casting and everything was perfection. And kill, well you guessed it. Kill represents everyone and everything we think doesn’t belong in the MCU. From characters to casting and storylines…looking at you Fantastic Four.
Friend, Marry, Kill Marvel Edition
This Podcast recording happened because during one of our #MarvelMondays discussions, our good friend and Marvel Brother Mike pointed out just how savage we can be when it comes to our opinions. I won’t say who he pointed out specifically, ahem, I’ll just say we all can be savages when you think about it. But not in a gross, toxic fanboy kind of way.
Marvel Mondays: Every Monday on Twitter 9 am PST/12 pm EST #MarvelMondays
Are you thinking to yourself this Mike guy sounds familiar? You might remember us mentioning a Mike who had a VERY unpopular opinion for our Unpopular Opinions Fandom Edition episode. He doesn’t think Simu should show his abs in Shang-Chi. And yes, that is THIS Mike.
Pepper Potts, Janet Van Dyne, and even Hawkeye and Drax were among those that made the list of eh okay. Nothing against any of them but at this point are they needed?
However, we all agree more Talos is a necessity and some others deserve better storylines.
Marvel Marry
This category was just a lovefest. Aside from the few casting choices and/or storylines we discuss in the kill section, Marvel Studios has been pretty spot on for all their rolls. I know the joke is old about the Marvel farm they grow these people on but it has to be true. Have you ever met a more perfect Captain America? Tony Stark? Ant-Man??
Despite a lot of the villains being secondary and not anyone’s favorites, we all can agree that Hela, Loki, and Thanos were well done.
Marvel Studios and Sony have given us new looks at both Black Widow and Morbius. The Black Widow was a special look while Morbius was the anticipated teaser. When it comes to anything Marvel, you know we had to deep dive and get to work breaking down what we saw.
Black Widow Special Look
The Black Widow special look gave fans a few new seconds of awesomeness from the upcoming Phase 4 film. Specifically, we see the World of Widows, Red Guardian, and Taskmaster in action.
It’s exciting to think Natasha and her family will have to face Widows, fighters with their skillset. But more terrifying for her will be Taskmaster. For those curious as to why his fighting styles seem so familiar…we love you, but read a comic book!
The short answer is Taskmaster can ahem master, any physical skillset of his opponents. To fully appreciate what Black Widow is up against, see the comics listed in the above post. This baddie has some serious potential and we hope Marvel won’t kill him off at the end of this movie.
Yeah, we are still a bit salty about Hela. But can she really die? I mean she is the mistress of Hel, so…
A little background on Morbius. Dr. Michael Morbius creates a cure for his rare blood disease that turns him into a living vampire, with superhuman powers and bloodlust. Like a real vampire, Morbius needs to drink blood to survive. Unlike a real one, once he regains his senses and transforms back into his human state he feels guilt and remorse.
Morbius is a classic complicated Marvel villain. You want to hate him but part of you can’t.
We got a glimpse of Hunger, another living vampire but without the guilt or shame. He is like the other side of a coin when it comes to Morbius. Ultimately, he will end up being the big bad of the film.
At the end Vulture appears, rocking his prison garb we last saw him in in Spider-Man Homecoming. With Vulture, rumored J. Jonah Jameson, and the mention of Spider-Man being a murder, this could be Sony’s way of tying their films into the MCU. Something we as fans would love to see.
All of these bread crumbs are fueling our speculation that the Sinister Six could be coming int he future. They already have several players in the game, it just makes sense. Trust us Sony, we drink and we know things.
Marvel Movie News
Black Widow is in theaters May 1, 2020
Morbius is in theaters July 31, 2020
