So this is your spoiler warning if you haven’t seen Jungle Cruise.
The Weekly Bugle Vol 28
Jungle Cruise is now in theaters and on Disney+ premiere access and so far it is cruising steadily with high scores and a nice box office turnout. That means a sequel may be happening and we hope it does! What If drops later this month. We’ve watched the first 3 episodes and we have some nonspoiler thoughts.
Jungle Cruise Review
The Jungle Cruise had a massive (for these times) box office debut, making $100+ million opening weekend worldwide. We both really enjoyed the film which given the talent involved wasn’t a surprise. The ride is iconic and this film hit all the right notes for longtime fans.
It is The Mummy meets Pirates meets Indiana Jones and we are here for all of it. Dwayne and Emily are the onscreen duo we didn’t know we needed and now can’t get enough of. Jack Whitehall is as hilarious as always as Emily’s snooty yet charming brother MacGregor.
Looking for puns? Hoping for the backside of water? Jungle Cruise has PLENTY. It might be one of our more BOULDER statements but this film brought everything we love about the attraction and plussed it, if we are talking Disney Parks terms.
Oh and that hilarious interview we talked about on the show. Here are the links to those.
Loki Episode 4 left us on a cliffhanger. Where and when did Loki get pruned to? We get those answers and more. Tom wasn’t kidding when he said 4 and 5 were game-changers. With how this one ended, we cannot wait to see what happens in episode 6. Are you ready for this Loki episode 5 breakdown?
“Journey Into Mystery” is titled after the comic series of the same name. In fact, it is where Loki made his more modern comic debut. Loki awakes finding himself trapped in the Void, the cosmic dumping ground for the TVA. He also learns quickly that the other Lokis’ plan is simply to survive, nothing more, nothing less. Specifically, he needs to survive being annihilated by Alioth.
Comic fans were excited to see Alioth in this form, as sort of a guard dog to whoever and whatever lies beyond the void. While Loki works on not dying, Sylvie interrogates Renslayer about what happened to Loki and what is going on at the TVA. She ends up pruning herself to get to Loki and figure out who is pulling the strings of the TVA.
In the Void, there are a ton of Easter eggs to spot, including the infamous Thanos-Copter. The Lokis have a bunker where they hide from Alioth and the rest of Void, including the marauding President Loki and his army.
Sylvie wakes up and is almost eaten, but she is saved by Lightning McQueen. Okay, fine, it was Mobius who pulls up in a variant Pizza Planet truck. We won’t accept any other theories on why Mobius was driving a pizza car.
The Lokis and Mobius make a plan to enchant Alioth and discover what he is hiding. Mobius went back to the TVA while Classic Loki takes an impressive stand. The episode ends with a portal to the Quantum Realm? What’s going to happen next week? We can’t wait to find out. But also why does it have to be the last episode?
Loki Episode 3 was incredible, but it seems like Marvel pulled out all the stops with this episode. Our minds are officially blown. Once again, this is another episode of “I told you so,” with several confirmations of theories we had early on. However, we’re still, “WOW,” to use one of Owen Wilson’s favorite phrases. Are you ready for this Loki episode 4 breakdown?
Back on Lamentis-1, the world is ending. Sylvie tells Loki, “The universe wants to break free, so it manifests chaos. Like me being born the Goddess of Mischief.”
She tells him how the TVA took her as a child prisoner but she escaped. Everywhere she went, she created a Nexus Event that signaled the TVA.
Loki and Sylvie are comforting each other in the last moments before Lamentis is completely destroyed, and it creates a timeline branch so strong it not only shows up on the TVA monitor, but it practically shoots straight up. Mobius arrives on Lamentis and takes the duo into custody.
Just as Mobius is about to send Loki through a Time Cell, Loki tells him the TVA is lying.
The Time Cell sends Loki to Asgard, where he sees Lady Sif, and he’s stuck in a time loop at a moment where he has apparently cut part of Sif’s hair in a prank. Because it’s a time loop, when Loki tries to reason with Sif and get her to help him, she just kicks his butt…repeatedly.
This moment is based on a story in Norse Mythology, not based on a scene we have seen in the MCU. Lady Sif, the wife of Thor, has her hair cut off by Loki. Thor threatens him until he can fix it. However, in the MCU, Sif needs no help from Thor.
Mobius retrieves Loki out of the Time Cell to determine the cause of the Nexus Event on Lamentis. Loki denies everything before deciding to tell him an elaborate made-up story. Mobius casually mentions Sylvie is dead to see Loki’s reaction; he seems taken aback before he dons his uncaring Loki mask he wears so well.
That brief look was all it took for Mobius to figure out it was two variants falling for one another that caused the spike in the timeline. Sylvie and Loki have feelings for each other and that kind of thing can cause pure chaos that breaks reality.
Loki tries again to implore Mobius that the Time-Keepers kidnapped all the TVA peeps from the timeline, the entire TVA is comprised of Variants, and their memories have been erased–memories which Sylvie can access through enchantment.
In Renslayer’s office, she signs off on Mobius’ paperwork and he asks why she wouldn’t let him interrogate Sylvie. She claims to be protecting him. She then asks him if he could go anywhere and anytime where would it be? He never answers. He continues to ask about Hunter C-20 and you can tell he doesn’t believe a word out of her mouth.
Hunter B-15 took Sylvie back to Roxxcart to find out more about the memories she has after being enchanted. She’s ready to take down the TVA, too.
Mobius swapped TemPads with Renslayer when she wasn’t looking at knows C-20 remembers her whole life previous to the TVA–and Renslayer does, too.
Mobius tells Loki that he knows he was telling the truth about the TVA, and he wants to help Loki and Sylvie bring it down.
WOW moment 1: Renslayer stops Mobius in the hallway and PRUNES MOBIUS. She takes the variants up the elevator to stand before the Time-Keepers.
Hunter B-15 releases both variants from their collars.
Mother forking shirtballs.
A cosmic fight ensues. Sylvie vs Renslayer, Loki vs the Hunters. Sylvie throws her sword, lobs off the head of a Time-Keeper to find it’s a robot. So very Wizard of Oz-like.
Loki attempts to tells Sylvie about his feelings for her…it’s Loki, this is new territory.
WOW moment 2: Renslayer PRUNES LOKI from behind while he’s professing his love to Sylvie.
Sylvie isn’t playing and wants to know ALL ABOUT THE TVA from Renslayer.
Bruh, That Loki Post Credit Scene in Loki Episode 4
We had the chance to interview Emma Stone and Emma Thompson for their new film Cruella. Not only that but we also heard from the filmmakers about what it took to bring this most villainous villain to life. No spoilers here but we have seen the film, and we absolutely loved it.
Interview with Emma Stone and Emma Thompson for Cruella
We were delighted that Disney went dark with Cruella. How could you not? The woman eventually wants a spotted puppy coat.
Emma Stone: They really let Craig and Tony write and make what they wanted to make. I think it’s definitely dark for a Disney movie. It was darker than I’ve seen a Disney movie for a good long time.
Craig has worked on villain stories in the past like I, Tonya, What is it about the villains and what attracted you to Cruella’s story?
Craig: (Laughs) I mean, villains are always so fun to portray, because you just have more license to do things that aren’t quite appropriate or push the boundaries, and create these larger-than-life characters. It was really important to me that this was not black and white. Obviously, no pun intended there with Cruella. But I wanted there to be this gray area and be able to empathize with the choices that she was making. And I wanted to do it in a way that was really fun.
If you had to pick between Estella and Cruella who would it be? They are both so different.
Emma Stone: I think Estella is sweet, but she’s not fully embodied. So I would say there is something about Cruella that’s pretty enticing because she just kind of is who she is. She’s in full acceptance and autonomy there. So I am kind of interested in that Cruella world. That said she does some things, crosses some lines that I don’t think I would necessarily cross. But to be honest, I sort of prefer Cruella.
The set pieces in this film are phenomenal. What was the biggest challenge when creating Cruella’s world?
Fiona: I think the biggest challenge was actually the number sets. The film has great pace and we move around a lot. There are lots of little moments that require different sets. And so we were very busy. There were 120-odd sets to do across the course of the shoot. Some of them are enormous and some of them are tiny. I think one of the things that I’m most pleased about with the film is the level of detail in every single one of those sets.
Listen to the podcast and check out the links above for the full interview.
Cruella is in theaters and on Disney+ Premiere Access May 28, 2021. Tickets are on sale now.
We have gushed before about how much we love Disney Cruise Line adventures. This week Disney unveiled in the most Disney way possible a look at their newest ship, the Disney Wish. There are so many new and exciting things coming we wanted to share with you all the Disney Wish details. Because hello Star Wars and Marvel we are here for you.
On June 9, 2022, the Disney Wish will set sail from Port Canaveral on its maiden voyage. It will stop in Nassau, Bahamas, and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. Mark your calendars because May 27, 2021, is the day the general public can begin booking on the new ship.
There are so many things to be excited about on the Wish, including all-new reimagined areas for families, kids, and adults. On the pool deck, the Mickey and Friends district will have more pools than ever plus the first-ever Disney attraction at sea the AquaMouse. This new take on the AquaDuck comes with a whole new short featuring Mickey and Minnie.
For the kids, the Oceaneer Club now comes with a secret entrance that will take kids straight into the fun. Inside the will find Marvel superheroes, Disney Imagineering, and Princesses. We only have one question- Can we be kids again?
The family dining restaurants include Frozen, the golden age of animation, and a first of its kind Marvel cinematic dining experience. If you need us you know where to find us.
It’s not just the kids who are getting one-of-a-kind themed experiences, adults can enjoy dining themed after Beauty and the Beast as well as the Star Wars. Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge will transport you from the ocean to space as you enjoy Star Wars-themed bites and drinks. So I guess if you don’t find us at the Marvel restaurant you could probably find us here.
Welcome back to the Geek Girls’ Universe for The Weekly Bugle Vol 25. This week we are talking about Alfred Molina confirming the worst kept secret in the MCU, the Shang-Chi teaser trailer, Bad Batch, and more!
We joke about Spider-Man 3 news constantly. Oh look someone else is confirmed. Isn’t everyone in this movie at this point? Welcome back Happy! In Spider-Man news this week Alfred Molina spills the tea on Doc Ock’s return in No Way Home.
He even calls himself the worst kept secret on the internet, and he isn’t wrong. Maybe that is why Marvel decided it was okay to let him do this interview with Variety. His character’s story will pick up where it left off, you know with his death. But like Molina says, it’s Marvel, no one is ever really dead.
Happy Birthday to Simu (and a belated one to Ashley)! Marvel Studios not only dropped the new poster for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings but also a trailer. In it, we see the real Mandarin, the Ten Rings, Death Dealer, Shang-Chi in action, and more.
Filming has been underway for Lord of the Rings season one on Amazon but what is shocking is the price tag. We hope you are sitting down for this. The cost for season one ALONE is $465 million. MILLION.
Game of Thrones didn’t even cost that much. Did they buy Middle Earth?
Disneyland in California isn’t the only park to get the Avengers treatment. Disneyland Paris just revealed a look at their Avengers Campus. This will complement the Hotel New York, which already features Marvel artwork but is being upgraded for the Avengers Campus reveal.
Last week, we broke down episode 1 of Falcon and Winter Soldier, and episode 2, “Star-Spangled Man” is now streaming on Disney+. It gave us more US Agent, which had our blood boiling and also featured a hilarious, yet heartbreaking, therapy session.
We would love to know how you feel about budget Cap, how they are pushing him onto the world, and when you think his true colors will show. Leave a comment or tweet with us.
This is your spoiler warning if you haven’t watched Episode 2 of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
Falcon and Winter Soldier Episode 2 Breakdown
The show begins with John Walker reliving his glory days at his old high school before taking the field to show off his new title of Captain America. His partner Hoskins who reveals his alias later as Battlestar is also there.
Unlike Steve who hated the pomp and circumstance that surrounded his forced stage shows as Captain America, Walker is reveling in them, taking selfies, signing autographs like a gloried comic con newb. Sam and Bucky watch as this clown parades around with the shield.
They leave to confront the Flag Smashers in Germany where after a battle, Bucky realizes exactly what they are dealing with. Like we mentioned last week these people are strong and now we know why.
This episode did a few things. One, it made us hate John Walker more. Two, it revealed how the Flag Smashers are so powerful. Three, it tackled race in such a poignant and honest way. Four, it made us even more hyped for next week.
John Walker and his buddy Hoskins both have ties to the criminal organization the Power Brokers. The Power Brokers are after the Flag Smashers for stealing what belongs to them, which would be the super-soldier serum that they developed.
We also met Isaiah Bradley, the black Captain America, this week. In the comics and on the show it seems, Isaiah was mercilessly experimented on by both the government and Hydra. Sam also dealt with discrimination for simply being a black man on a street in Maryland.
Our favorite therapist was back and forced our two unlikely friends into a couples’ therapy session. What followed was the most hilarious moment of the show while also being a very heartfelt, tender one as well. After they have a staring contest the heart of their problem is revealed which as often happens in therapy brings them closer together.
As promised our Falcon and Winter Soldier episode 1 breakdown is here! The highly anticipated Marvel show is now streaming on Disney+ and if you haven’t watched it yet do that and then come back and hang out with us.
For anyone who complained WandaVision didn’t start off fast enough or Marvel enough, they won’t be saying that now. Falcon and The Winter Soldier drops you right into the middle of the action and feels very much like an MCU film.
This is your spoiler warning if you haven’t watched Episode 1 of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
Falcon and Winter Soldier Episode 1 Breakdown
The show begins on a somber note as Sam is packing up the shield Steve gave him at the end of Avengers: Endgame. But almost immediately the scene shifts and fans are treated to an epic aerial battle. Falcon manages to rescue an operative who was kidnapped by none other than Batroc. Remember him?
Batroc gets away and before Sam heads home he learns about the Flag-Smashers, a group of individuals who think like was better during the blip. They want a unified world with no borders, and essentially no governments.
Sam turns over Steve’s shield to the Smithsonian to be used in the ever-expanding Captain America exhibit.
Bucky continues to have nightmares about the bad things that happened during his Winter Soldier days. He is in therapy which is good for him as someone with PTSD to the millionth degree. It is also a mandated part of his pardon.
The show mixes in classic Marvel humor with a lot of action and heart. There are more scenes about the real-world implications of the Blip, which started in WandaVision. Specifically how hard it is now that everything and everyone is back to “normal.”
The last 3 minutes or so had us fuming! If you know us well, you know exactly what I mean too.
We also shared our thoughts on what could happen next week as well as who we think Flag-Smasher could be behind the mask. What are your thoughts on the show? And most importantly how mad were you at the last 3 mins? Chat with us on Twitter and let us know!
Falcon and Winter Soldier is now streaming on Disney+.
We are back with the latest meet the Magic Makers episode. These episodes are dedicated to showcasing the amazing talents of Disney Cast Members. We got a chance to talk with Jennifer Padley, a cast member from the Disney World Fine Arts Photography Department who can create almost anything your little geek heart desires!
Interview with Disney Cast Member Jennifer Padley
Jennifer worked in post-production at Disney World’s Fine Arts Photography department. She helped guests take their special moments captured during a Disney photography session and create custom layouts, photo books, and more to tell their story.
What started as a side hustle for friends has quickly turned into a business that is thriving. Jennifer found inspiration as a child from The Lion King (1994), to get into art and design. She takes that inspiration, her talents, and her love of all things Disney and combines them to make some of the prettiest murals, art pieces, even custom shoes that you have ever seen!
Find Jennifer on Facebook, Instagram, and Etsy @PadleyARTS. She shared that one of her best-sellers are these adorable donut magnets and ornaments. I mean don’t they look good enough to eat?
If you can dream it and want custom artwork Jennifer can do it. From handpainted ornaments and shoes to massive wall murals, Jennifer is your girl. Although she is local to central Florida she did share she is willing to travel (when life permits it again) to your home to make your rooms pop.
We both really like the character DNA canvas prints she has created like this Princess one. This type of artwork can be made for any character(s) or fandom.
Of course, before we wrapped up we had to ask Jennifer about her favorite fandoms and Disney characters. And since she worked in the photography department we also asked her to share her favorite photo spots and editing hacks for those special Disney moments.
We are back with another meeting the Magic Makers episode. These episodes are dedicated to showcasing the amazing talents of Disney Cast Members. This time we chatted with Katie Brown, a cast member who has filled many roles at Walt Disney World.
Interview with Disney Cast Member Katie Brown
Katie has done it all from photo pass photography to entertainment. She recently performed with The Voices of Liberty (her dream role) and sailed aboard the Disney Cruise Line as part of their onboard entertainment. Which she said was amazing before 2020 hit. Fingers crossed we can all get back to sailing (safely) very soon.
Since we both have musical backgrounds we were excited to talk to a CM in that field. One of us always wanted to perform for Disney, can you guess who? Let us know if you got it right.
Find Katie at Katie Brown Music and Piano Party. On her own, Katie continues to offer customized musical experiences for any occasion. She has performed in driveway concerts, socially distant wedding receptions, and is currently working on a Carol Kane Tribute show.
If you have a holiday party, class reunion, or anything that could use some live music, Katie is your girl! Or, if you’re looking for a nice night out in the Orlando area, check out The Edison at Disney Springs. Katie is a regular performer there. We can’t wait to go visit and say hi, from a distance of course!
Piano Party started as a side hustle and quickly grew. If you’ve never experienced a dueling piano show you need to get on that now. Or at least visit their website. It is incredible to watch.
We also couldn’t let Katie leave without her sharing not only her favorite fandoms but also her favorite songs to sing. She went for a classic, you’ll have to listen to find out what it was!
