This show is not just colorful and musical, it’s a lot of fun, just like the book we both know and love. It features several recognizable characters and lots of new friends to meet like the all dog singing group the Barkapellas.

Fans of PD Eastman will be interested to hear whether or not other beloved characters will show up in the series. Our kids wanted to know if their friends Fred and Ted from Big Dog, Little Dog or the bird from Are You My Mother? will make their way into the show.

Adam hopes that children and families will enjoy the show together. Above that, there is a sense of community in the show.

“It’s about how community members get along, welcome new members, work as a team. I hope it inspires kids to get more curious about their own community and start thinking about what it means to be part of a community. Respecting each other and working with differences.”

S2E5 The Weekly Bugle Vol 13 WandaVision Episode 3, Godzilla vs Kong, & more!

the weekly bugle vol 13 wandavision

Hey friends! Welcome back for The Weekly Bugle Vol 13. This week we are discussing Episode 3 “Now In Color” of WandaVision, the new Godzilla vs Kong trailer, and more!

The Weekly Bugle Vol 13

Another week of WandaVision means we have more theories. Sure some questions were possibly answered, but the show offered up even more to take their place. It’s like Hydra right? Pun intended.

Spoiler warning if you have not watched WandaVision episode 3.

the weekly bugle vol 13

WandaVision Episode 3 “Now In Color”

Episode 3 of WandaVision as we promised last week definitely kicked the story up a few notches. The last 10 mins or so are what some fans have been waiting for–the “Marvel feel.”

But lets back up. Before Monica was abruptly booted from Westview, there was a lot going on. Twins being born, a rogue stork, and more. Mephisto? It’s possible, and we talk about those theories this week.

Related: WandaVision Episode 3 Easter Eggs and Breakdown

The big discussion this week is not about the layers of the Hydra Soak commercial but rather what do we think about Monica? Did Monica know what was going on in Westview or did she “snap out of it” no pun intended when Wanda began singing the lullaby?

We are hoping for a concrete answer in Episode 4. However, knowing Marvel, we might not get one.

Shang-Chi Trailer With Black Widow?

Simu tweeted that a Shang-Chi trailer WILL COME, but when is the question everyone wants to know. Likely, this trailer will accompany Black Widow. But with the rumors of another delay for Widow, we have no idea of knowing when this trailer will make its debut.

Speaking of Black Widow, I guess the time has come for us to suck it up and accept that we might not get a theatre release for this one. What do you think about premiere access with no more delays?

Interview With Executive Producer Scott Kreamer

Scott Kreamer is the Emmy-nominated executive producer of the Netflix original series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous. It’s inspired by the multi-billion-dollar Jurassic World franchise from Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment.

Prior to Jurassic World, Kreamer served as co-executive producer and story editor of DreamWorks Cleopatra in Space. He also executive produced and work as a story editor for Nickelodeon’s Pinky Malinky. Scott also co-executive produced DreamWorks Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness.

Interview With Executive Producer Scott Kreamer

We had the chance to speak with Scott about what to expect in Season 2 of the show. There are a lot of things he and the crew want children and families to take away from this season. First and foremost is that kids are resilient. And in a time like this, we all need to focus on that resiliency.

A fan favorite and Scott favorite dinosaur will be front and center this season as well. That’s right, the T. Rex is coming and those kids better watch out! Plus, since the show is set in the same universe as the films, we had to ask if a cross-over into live action was in the works. What did he say? You’ll have to listen to find out!

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous Season 1 is now streaming on Netflix. Season 2 will be available January 22.

S2E3 The Weekly Bugle Vol 12 WandaVision Premiere, Ayer Cut, & More!

the weekly bugle vol 12

Hey friends! Welcome back for The Weekly Bugle Vol 12. WandaVision has officially debuted on Disney+ and we have a lot to talk about. Oh and another fake Loki, The Ayer Cut, and more!

The Weekly Bugle Vol 12

We spent the bulk of our time chatting about WandaVision, how could we not? But we couldn’t leave you without talking about The Ayer Cut and what in the world is going on over at the DCEU.

Spoiler warning if you have not watched the WandaVision premiere.

the weekly bugle vol 12

WandaVision Premiere

We don’t know about you but we loved every minute of the premiere of WandaVision. The sitcom vibes and the looming presence of something sinister made for the perfect combination and welcome back to the MCU.

Related: WandaVision is Mind-Bending Fun

Each episode offered up a lot in terms of Easter eggs and clues as to what could be coming in future episodes. If you missed anything don’t worry we got you. Basically, we watched each episode a ton of times so you don’t have to unless you want to. After all, Marvel, like Star Wars, aims to pack in a lot into each episode so multiple viewings are a must if you want to catch everything.

Related: WandaVision Premiere Breakdown and Easter Eggs

Episode one was mostly feel good-sitcomy, but then dinner happened and things start to look a bit off. Do you think Mr. Hart was choking because of Wanda or was another outside force choking him to end his train of questioning?

Related: Best Quotes From WandaVision

One of our favorite moments in episode 2 that happened was the ill-fated meeting of the women that included a massive tease to a certain devil of Marvel. Mephisto was referenced in the show and not only that he is a key component of Wanda’s story, her twins, and her eventual breakdown.

Related: WandaVision May Have Dropped A Major Tease For Its Big Bad

While the commercials at first appear to be just callbacks to previous MCU films and characters we have a feeling they mean something more. The layers of these commercials might not be 100% clear until the last episode airs. But we have some theories.

Agnes might be the best character, at least she has the best lines. I’m using that line about being sober at the next parent night at school. No shame.

Moon Knight

Rumors have been going around that Ethan Hawke has reportedly joined the MCU as the villain in Moon Knight.

Thor Love and Thunder

Another big rumor is that Matt Damon was seen in Sydney where they are filming Thor Love and Thunder. Previously Matt played Loki in “The Tragedy of the Loki of Asgard” in Thor Ragnarok. Is he back as stage Loki or will he play a different role this time?

The Justice League and The Ayer Cut

Another week, another change to the Snyder Cut release. This time, Zack Snyder’s Justice League will now be 4 hours long and not a mini-series on HBO Max. It will also get a theatrical release. FOUR hours…in a theater? No thank you.

In other DCEU news, fans are once again calling for a director’s cut of a movie. This time it is the Suicide Squad. Director David Ayer released a scene with a burned Joker that was cut (like so many other scenes) from the final film. Given the time and effort it took to get The Snyder Cut released, we wonder if DC will listen sooner on this Ayer cut.

But we have to wonder, doesn’t all this make the studio look bad? What do you think DC fans?

S2E2 The Weekly Bugle Vol 11 WandaVision, Deadpool 3, 2021 Films, & more!

The Weekly Bugle Vol 11

Hey friends! Welcome back for The Weekly Bugle Vol 11. We have a lot to look forward to this week with the premiere of WandaVision. Before it kicks off, we had to get a few last-minute predictions in.

The Weekly Bugle Vol 11

The Weekly Bugle Vol 11

We spent the bulk of our time chatting about WandaVision, but there were some other exciting MCU confirmations, a ton of 2021 movies coming out, and one big predicted dumpster fire.

WandaVision

We are rejoicing because it is WandaVision week! WandaVision officially kicks off with 2 episodes on Disney+ this Friday. Plus, we will be getting screeners ahead of the premiere. You’ll have to watch our accounts to see our reactions.

There was a big press junket where Kevin Feige shared quite a bit not only about WandaVision but also about the MCU as a whole. Some of the things confirmed had long been rumored and were practically fact, but it is nice to hear him say the things we’ve been saying for a while now.

The Weekly Bugle Vol 11

Monica Rambeau is confirmed for Captain Marvel 2 and her story will be told in WandaVision. We think it will lean heavily on how/when she gets her powers. Plus we know she is a confirmed member of SWORD, which is like the Space SHIELD, so that will be interesting as well.

Feige also shared that the show will feature “commercials” that will callback to previous MCU films. Hopefully, some meme-worthy commercials pop up.

The Merc with the Mouth is officially coming home to the MCU. Deadpool 3 which begins filming in 2022 will be set in the MCU. Don’t stress, he will keep his Rated R rating and we are 100% sure Deadpool will reference this fact in his opening monologue/VoiceOver for the film.

Interview With Special Effects Artist Steve Boyle

It’s 2021 and that means we are kicking off Season 2 of the Geek Girls Universe Podcast. What better way to get the new year started than this interview with special effects artist Steve Boyle? This is the man responsible for creatures from some of our favorite films and probably some of your nightmares.

Interview With Special Effects Artist Steve Boyle

Steve Boyle’s work can be seen in Love and Monsters, What We Do In The Shadows, Attack of the Clones, and Daybreakers amongst other things. We had a chance to speak with him about his latest film, Love and Monsters which is available from Paramount Pictures to own today on Blu-ray, 4K, and DVD.

Love and Monsters is one of our favorite films from 2020. You can hear the others one on our Year End Review Episode.

What creature was the most challenging to create for Love and Monsters? And which one was your favorite?

Steve: My favorite was the Buzzard, the bunker creature. I think that was my favorite because it’s an asymmetrical, miss-mash of flesh, slime, and thorns. It was really fun to do. When I was a kid that was the sort of stuff I always wanted to do. That’s the kind of creature that has pulled me into doing this kind of stuff.

The most challenging was Mavis. About 4 hours before we had to film her on location she was about 100 pieces on a table we were trying to assemble. It was one of those ones where you think “Maybe this is going to be the one that doesn’t work.”

Related: Love and Monsters Review

There is one monster we never get to see on screen despite it being a massive threat to the characters. Was it always the plan not to have it show up?

Steve: Yes. This was an intimate approach which personally I liked because you wanted to see more of everything. I think it’s better to get little suggestions, have you wanting to see more than seeing too much of them.

How many of the monsters were practical effects versus CGI?

Steve: I’m trying to remember. The gobblers were puppets but they were also CGI. Mavis was practical, the buzzard was about 80% practical. We ended up doing more practical stuff than I thought.

Subscribe to the Geek Girls Universe Podcast Here!

When it comes to special effects, you have designed creatures that are well known in lore like the werewolves for What We Do In The Shadows and others like in Star Wars and Love and Monsters that no one has ever seen before. Do you prefer taking something that is traditional and making it your own or coming up with something completely new?

Steve: That’s a really good question because I don’t know the answer to that. They excite me both in different ways.

I don’t know. I think I kinda swing between the two. Both are hugely satisfying. I guess with building all new stuff you don’t have to break through people’s conceived ideas of what a werewolf should look like, what a vampire should look like. You can be a bit more free. It’s also not compared in the same way. But I love doing both.

Related: Best Quotes From Love and Monsters

Along those lines, is there a character or a monster that you want to bring to life that you haven’t yet?

Steve: I haven’t done my own version of Frankenstein yet, I would love to do that. I’ve been really lucky, I’ve done most of what I always wanted to do. I’ve had amazing opportunities across all genres and to be able to work with the best artists in the world. People who were my idols as a kid are now some of my closest friends.

What inspired you to become a special effects artist? What drew you into this as your career?

Steve: I don’t know what drew me to it. I just remember being obsessed with it. I never wanted to do anything else. It was one of those things that kinda chose me and I got the bug very early on. I am creatively ambitious but not careerist if that makes sense. I’m much more interested in what I’m making.

Getting into this at such a young age, were there artists or puppeteers that you looked up to?

Steve: Oh yeah a lot. Richard Taylor who has his company WETA with Peter Jackson. I got to go over there and work with them for about 5 years. It wasn’t just about special effects, they were really original thinkers.

And where will we see Steve’s work showing up next? You’ll have to listen to find out!

2020 Movies We Loved And One We Didn’t

Being music nerds we gushed over Hamilton and Soul. There are a few we both haven’t seen, but since we are about to go into another round of lockdowns (probably) we will have plenty of time to watch.

We are interviewing Steven Boyle head of creatures for Love and Monsters next week. If you haven’t watched Love and Monsters and love a good, fun, not-so-gruesome “scary” movie, you need to check it out. We both liked it a lot and hope they make another one.

If you’re into gruesome then Spontaneous is for you. Jana thought it was kinda ET-esque in a way, might seem like a random comparison but she makes a good argument for it.

Looking Ahead To The Year Of Marvel aka 2021

We don’t believe that on January 1st all will be right in the world, but we do know that 2021 is going to be the year of Marvel. After being lost in a desert without our favorite superheroes, they are coming back and in full force.

First up is WandaVision, our first look into what Marvel Phase 4 has in store for us. And while this show might still seem a little quirky, we believe it is going to be CRUCIAL to the multiverse happenings coming in Loki, Doctor Strange 2, and Spider-Man 3.

There is also everyone’s favorite god Loki doing some time traveling, conducting heists, and running for president? Sure why not. TBH we would vote for him. LOL

On a less multiverse-insane level will be the more grounded yet still exciting The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Bucky Barnes, Sam Wilson, Zemo, we are here for all of it.

Interview with Disney CM Jennifer Padley

We are back with the latest meet the Magic Makers episode. These episodes are dedicated to showcasing the amazing talents of Disney Cast Members. We got a chance to talk with Jennifer Padley, a cast member from the Disney World Fine Arts Photography Department who can create almost anything your little geek heart desires!

Interview with Disney Cast Member Jennifer Padley

Jennifer worked in post-production at Disney World’s Fine Arts Photography department. She helped guests take their special moments captured during a Disney photography session and create custom layouts, photo books, and more to tell their story.

What started as a side hustle for friends has quickly turned into a business that is thriving. Jennifer found inspiration as a child from The Lion King (1994), to get into art and design. She takes that inspiration, her talents, and her love of all things Disney and combines them to make some of the prettiest murals, art pieces, even custom shoes that you have ever seen!

The last episode of The Mandalorian was fun, but we knew this one was going to take us on an adventure. Little did we know just how much of a roller coaster it would be, emotionally speaking. Peyton Reed delivered one hell of a ride for this episode. From Luke’s Darth Vader Rogue One-like entrance to the extra dose of girl power, The Rescue had us feeling all sorts of things.

We didn’t really get into the Star Wars news too much last week, but this week we decided to talk about the one we are probably the most excited for–Ahsoka flipping Tano.

Ahsoka not only means more Ahsoka it means a live-action Thrawn, Ezra, and Sabine are totally possible and basically guaranteed. With Filoni helming this one, and his love for Ahsoka, we know its going to be great. We have some thoughts though and hopefully he listens.
