Thor’s Phase 4 Arc

According to an opinion piece from Screenrant and chatter online, fans have been debating what Thor’s phase 4 arc should be. Some argue that Thor should become the leader of The Avengers while others are leaning towards Captain Marvel.

Thor Phase 4

There are pros and cons to Thor taking the lead and while it makes sense in his story, it also doesn’t. The man, er God, has spent a lot of time and dialogue not being a ruler. But as long as it doesn’t mean Natalie Portman’s Jane takes over we are okay with whatever direction Taika and the MCU is taking Thor.

Shang-Chi Filming Wrapped

Shang-Chi and The Eternals are two films we heard announced, got little tidbits for, and then thanks to 2020 it has been radio silence ever since. However, Shang-Chi has wrapped on filming which has everyone speculating when we could see Simu make his debut in costume.

Our theory:

Shang-Chi Teaser in January with a full trailer to come with Black Widow. That of course is if everything stays the course and we have no further derailments to our precious timeline.

WandaVision

Although we have been wandering the desert of no Marvel, there is an oasis on the horizon. WandaVision is coming this December and the trailer offered so many clues as to what maybe coming down the line for Phase 4.

Including a possible hint at the future of a character in Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Falcon and The Winter Soldier: US Agent will be called Captain America

Minor spoiler for those who have no read the comics or watched any interviews, US Agent will be using the title Captain America at the start of Falcon and The Winter Soldier. In the comics Wyatt takes the mantle when the government deemed Fury to old and Sam Wilson not the right color. Wyatt was already a government agent and begrudgingly took over as Cap for awhile.

US Agent Falcon and The Winter Soldier
Photo from: Marvel Disney Plus Trailer Breakdown

US Agent eventually joins up with other superhero teams including the Thunderbolts and the Dark Avengers. Which is interesting due to the Dark Avengers Easter egg in the WandaVision trailer.

“LITTLE BABY JUNE’S FIRST WORD TICKLES MOTHER”

This is the headline on the newspaper Vision is holding. In the comic books  June Covington is a part of the Dark Avengers, using the alias Scarlet Witch.

If you’re curious to see more of Ashley’s trailer breakdown go here:

Uncharted

Finally, the Uncharted film is being made and Tom Holland shared a photo of him as Drake on set. We haven’t played the game before but all video game adaptations make us nervous.

The problem with video game adaptations is they are either excellent or garbage. We are hoping for the former for Tom. One thing that is never garbage? Tom Holland.

Tom Holland Uncharted

Speaking of our favorite Spider-Man, Tom Holland has been spotted in Georgia and posted that he has received the script for Spider-Man 3. He says he won’t spill anything because he has learned his lesson but it’s Tom so we think we will get a little something.

Breaking News: Moon Knight

Rumor has it that Oscar Issac is in talks to play Marc Spector in Moon Knight! Major outlets are reporting this news and although he will most likely deny it, we know how those denials usually go. *cough* Paul Rudd *cough*

Ep. 17: Exclusive Interview with Julia Jones

Julia Jones Think Like A Dog

Hey there geeks! We had the opportunity to interview the talented and super fun Julia Jones. If you don’t know, Julia starred as Leah Clearwater in Twilight, Omera in “The Mandalorian”, and most recently as Agent Munoz in Think Like A Dog. You know we could not let the opportunity pass by to geek out about “The Mandalorian” and other nerdy things, because Julia is also a geek.

interview with Julia Jones

Exclusive Interview with Julia Jones

Sometimes 15 minutes doesn’t feel like a lot; sometimes it’s enough to enjoy a few good laughs and feel like you’ve chatted with someone and known them for a long time. This was one of those times.

I was a little worried about having to do this interview via phone instead of in person but it was great. Julia was funny, engaging, and it didn’t feel awkward at all!

Subscribe to the Geek Girls Universe Podcast

We started off by asking her about her role as Agent Munoz in Think Like A Dog. Funny moments on set and what it was like filming in New Orleans.

Jones: “I really responded to the script. It’s about a little boy whose science project goes awry and he forms a telepathic connection with his dog, and I had a dog growing up that I was really close to and I think felt in some way that I was connected to her, maybe telepathically, why not? And that was just very sort of sweet and personal to me.”

“I love working with the dogs. For me, there is an element of spontaneity that comes when working with dogs. I feel calm and relaxed working with them, especially big dogs like the Henry dog. These dogs are extremely professional and really well behaved. Everybody just wanted to be around the dogs. I definitely was hanging out with the dogs offset.” (laughs)

I think we all agree we would want to hang out with the dogs!

Jones: “One of the neighbors let us use their house for makeup because the trailers were too far away so we would go and do makeup touch-ups in her house. “Sure, just come on in.”

Read more: Exclusive Interview With Julia Jones

The people of New Orleans didn’t just offer up their houses for touch-ups, they also came out to watch the filming. Like a Community Theatre production.

Jones: “People would get beach chairs and at 9 am in the morning you would get out of the car to start filming and there would be all these people with their beach chairs and bottles of wine. They set up their chairs and watched us film. It was like a community theatre production.” (Laughs)

Julia Jones Think Like A Dog

Julia is a self-proclaimed nerd. Being a big Book Worm, we asked her about how reading informs her acting choices.

Jones: “I think that reading books impact the way that I see the world to begin with. You try to understand things that you haven’t experienced or you try to understand what it’s like to live in a place that you’ve never been, different things that are going on that are outside of your little world that you inhabit.

Twilight, I definitely read before we filmed…I mean, because you’d pick those books up and you can’t put them down, first of all, but, you also want to be as much on the page of your audience as you can.”

Read more: Interview With Julia Jones | Talking Dogs, Nerd Life, and The Mandalorian

If you started doing puzzles during quarantine you are in good company!

Jones: “Oh my gosh, I’ve been doing puzzles in quarantine. These like 1,000 piece puzzles that I’ve been extremely obsessed with!”

She has been involved in some incredible projects with really large fanbases, like “The Mandalorian,” “ER,” “Westworld,” and The Twilight Saga. We asked her what it was like to be a part of them.

Jones: “You always sort of feel like you have a family when you’re working on a film, but (with those franchises) it’s like you’re joining a family, a huge family. Cause it’s not just about getting together and telling the story that’s very beloved by millions of people. But you’re kind of in it together and you have to navigate the reception of it as well. And it is nice to do that with your colleagues as opposed to just off on your own.”

Ep. 16: Friend, Marry, Kill Star Wars Edition

Friend Marry Kill Star Wars Edition

Welcome back! Just in time for May the 4th be with you, we are back with friend, marry, kill, Star Wars edition! The Marvel episode was so much fun we had to do it again. Funny enough, one person makes both lists in the same spot! We will give you 3 guesses who that is and the first 2 don’t count.

Friend Marry Kill Star Wars Edition

Friend, Marry, Kill Star Wars Edition

The rules are simple. Friend means you are meh on the character or the storyline. Marry they are perfection and should be treasured forever. Kill they are the worst, the absolute worst. You got the idea, so let’s introduce our special guests.

Meghan Cooper is the creative force behind JaMonkey and DisneyWishful. She is a good friend of ours and fellow geek. From Disney to Star Wars, Harry Potter to Marvel, she loves her fandoms! You can find her on social @JaMonkey.

Listen to more: Unpopular Opinions: Fandom Edition

Star Wars Friend

We all had our lists ready to go but Meghan can out the gate with some shockers! I was glad I was sitting down because I felt some disturbances in the Force.

Subscribe to the Geek Girls Universe Podcast

Shockers aside, we all felt that The Clone Wars (not including the latest season and Ahsoka, The Clone Troopers, and Maul) are okay. Sometimes the back and forth of the storyline and heavy focus on disliked characters from the prequels detract from the overall greatness.

Don’t hate us too much, we like them we just don’t love them enough to marry, unless we could tweak a bit.

Star Wars Resistance also made the list. Kaz is whiney like Iron Fist and you know how we feel about Danny Rand. And following the greatness that is Star Wars Rebels in the animated Star Wars world, it just felt like a so-so show.

About Meghan’s list though… I don’t want to spoil anything, but you might want to say a certain compound word that starts with m and ends with -er when you hear it.

Star Wars Marry

This category was just a lovefest. The original trilogy, Rogue One, Baby Yoda, Star Wars Rebels, what is not to love? Carrie Fisher is a Queen, and we will hurt anyone that comes for Baby Yoda.

Also, are we all agreed that even when we find out The Child’s name, we are still calling him Baby Yoda?

We would love to know where you stand on the Ahsoka rumors for The Mandalorian. The three of us are opinionated about this character and the casting, after all, this is Ahsoka freaking Tano, arguably the best character to come out the prequels.

Star Wars Kill

Ah, the meat of this game. And like I mentioned before, I bet you can guess who made it on the list.

Padme and Anakin. Shocker right? Where to start on this one? The poor acting, storylines, the weird romance between a teen and a third grader? However you want to look at it, it was a hot, hot mess.

Friend Marry Kill Star Wars Padme

To be fair, to the character of Anakin, I liked him a lot better in The Clone Wars when he was voiced by Matt Lanter. Padme is also slightly, better in The Clone Wars, but legit only in small doses.

Jar Jar… there is nothing to say here that you don’t already also think. No offense to the actor, it wasn’t his fault. The Gungan haunts us, specifically Jana (and me) whenever I happen to also be on Star Tours with her.

It wasn’t just hate on the prequels day though, you might be surprised who else got the axe from Meghan.

And even more opinions.

After cleansing the galaxy of our least favorite characters, casting options, and weak storylines, we discussed the future of Star Wars. From the upcoming Disney Plus shows to things we dream of seeing, the future of the universe is bright. At the end of that, day it includes more Baby Yoda so how bad can it be?

Ep. 15: Saying Goodbye To Schitt’s Creek

Saying Goodbye To Schitt's Creek

Welcome back! In this episode, we are saying goodbye to one of our favorite shows- Schitt’s Creek. This show gave us so much over the last 6 seasons, it’s hard to believe it is all over.

Saying Goodbye To Schitt's Creek

Saying Goodbye To Schitt’s Creek

The finale gave David and Patrick their happily ever after, Alexis an opportunity to shine, and Moira dressed like a Priest similar to Robin Hood Men in Tights. The Roses are ready for their next big thing, and we are left wondering when we might see them all again.

Subscribe to the Geek Girls Universe Podcast

This isn’t the first time we have gushed about the show or shared our favorite moments. If you’re a big fan like us, you should listen to our Why We Love Schitt’s Creek episode. I bet you will find yourself saying the same.

This last season was bittersweet and utter perfect Schitts, culminating with one of the best show finales I’ve seen in a long time. I laughed, cried, and laughed some more.

Love Schitt’s Creek and hate being in quarantine? Read Stuck at Home as Told By Schitt’s Creek.

Schitt’s Creek Finale Making Us Cry

I pretty much kept it together until the wedding actually started. But the combination of the singing, Mariah Carey lyrics, and David’s vows got me right in the heart. It was absolutely beautiful.

Jana, on the other hand, was able to keep a dry eye until the “Best Wishes, Warmest Regards” special that aired after the show. That just made me cry more TBH.

Whether you cried or not, the celebration of love was something special that we all needed to experience during this crazy time in our lives.

A Happy Ending

So many things I want to say about this one, but I won’t. You’ll have to listen because we cracked up over that moment. Also, I didn’t even catch the reference at the end of the show but Jana did! I think I was too busy crying and laughing at Moira.

Schitt’s Creek is over, now what?

Although the schedule is TBD right now due to everything going on, look for Schitt’s Creek: The Farewell Tour to come to a city near you. This one-night event brings the cast to the stage for an interactive Q&A with the audience. I’m anxiously awaiting the new dates here on the east coast.

Now is the time to binge new shows. Try “Superstore,” “Kim’s Convenience,” and “Community,” to start with. Need more recommendations? Read the 20 Best TV Shows to Binge Watch Right Now and Best Shows to Binge Watch.

Plus you can always go back and binge Schitt’s Creek. Find seasons 1-5 on Netflix. The final season has no release date as of yet for the US. Ashley is going back to the beginning of Schitt’s because she thinks like “Friends,” it will always be funny.

Ep. 14: Friend, Marry, Kill Marvel Edition

Friend Marry Kill Marvel Edition

Welcome back! In this episode we are talking Friend, Marry, Kill Marvel Edition with a special guest. Listen as we decide the fate of MCU characters!

That’s right on this special edition of that popular game, friend stands for a character, actor/actress we like but we are also okay never seeing again. Marry means the casting and everything was perfection. And kill, well you guessed it. Kill represents everyone and everything we think doesn’t belong in the MCU. From characters to casting and storylines…looking at you Fantastic Four.

Friend Marry Kill Marvel Edition

Friend, Marry, Kill Marvel Edition

This Podcast recording happened because during one of our #MarvelMondays discussions, our good friend and Marvel Brother Mike pointed out just how savage we can be when it comes to our opinions. I won’t say who he pointed out specifically, ahem, I’ll just say we all can be savages when you think about it. But not in a gross, toxic fanboy kind of way.

Are you thinking to yourself this Mike guy sounds familiar? You might remember us mentioning a Mike who had a VERY unpopular opinion for our Unpopular Opinions Fandom Edition episode. He doesn’t think Simu should show his abs in Shang-Chi. And yes, that is THIS Mike.

We let Mike defend himself though because all is fair in nerd and war. Just wait until you hear why he thinks it would be okay if Simu keeps his shirt on. And for the record, we still find this extremely unpopular!

Marvel Friends

Pepper Potts, Janet Van Dyne, and even Hawkeye and Drax were among those that made the list of eh okay. Nothing against any of them but at this point are they needed?

However, we all agree more Talos is a necessity and some others deserve better storylines.

Friend Marry Kill Marvel Edition Talos

Marvel Marry

This category was just a lovefest. Aside from the few casting choices and/or storylines we discuss in the kill section, Marvel Studios has been pretty spot on for all their rolls. I know the joke is old about the Marvel farm they grow these people on but it has to be true. Have you ever met a more perfect Captain America? Tony Stark? Ant-Man??

Despite a lot of the villains being secondary and not anyone’s favorites, we all can agree that Hela, Loki, and Thanos were well done.

Marvel Kill

Here is where Mike would say #SavageAshley is about to come out. Yes, I just outed myself, I am the reason we decided to do this episode. But I maintain we ALL can be a bit savage when it comes to our fandoms and favorite characters. Just saying!

Naturally, we spent A LOT of time on this one. It is no secret I’m not a fan of Natalie Portman from Star Wars to Thor- not a fan. I shared about my issues with X-Men and Fantastic Four (Sansa Stark really?!) and another super popular rated R Marvel movie that I just couldn’t get behind.

We thought Mike only had deep-rooted disdain for X-Men and Fantastic Four, Dr. Doom’s portrayal specifically but man does he have some things to say about Danny Rand. Finn Jones, you might want to walk the other way if you see Mike on the street!

And even more opinions.

After cleansing the MCU of our least favorite characters, casting options, and weak storylines we discussed how to fix it all. At the end of the day, we trust Kevin Feige and that going forward, Phase 4 and beyond will be even more amazing that 1-3.

Plus you have got to hear us get into a would you rather with our least favorite characters/films. Star Wars Prequels were brought into this one, yikes is right!

Ep. 12: Unpopular Opinions – Fandom Edition

unpopular opinions

Have you ever been told you have unpopular opinions? If the answer is “no,” you either never speak out in the public domain, or maybe you misunderstood the question. Let us rephrase, have you ever been harassed online for your opinion on something?

There it is. We have ALL been judged for our opinions, no matter how innocuous they may be. We get flack for things all the time. Ashley’s personal favorite was being told she only liked Solo: A Star Wars Story because she’s a female. The movie is predominately male and one of the strong female characters dies while the other joins the dark side. Sounds like a total feminine movie? *Scratches head*

Unpopular Opinions: Fandom Edition

On this episode of the Geek Girls Universe Podcast, we decided to dive into all those “unpopular opinions” we have about fandoms. We asked you, our friends and fans, what your unpopular opinions are and we got some good ones!

Thank you to all who were brave enough to share their opinions, even when facing the trolls of certain fandoms *cough* star wars *cough*

Honestly, it is the toxicity of the Star Wars fandom that inspired this episode. So let’s get this out of the way…it’s okay to be a Reylo, and it’s okay not to be a Reylo. What is not cool is bashing people on one side of that fence or the other.

unpopular opinions

We are joined this episode by our friend Sarah Gilliland of Sarah in the Suburbs. Sarah is a mom of 3 and has been a geek for a long time, but only recently fully embraced her geekiness. She runs the Facebook group The Wizarding World Moms, which is a non-judgmental place for all Potterheads raising their own Potterheads.

Unpopular Star Wars Opinions

Pull up a chair and let’s get comfy. We ripped the bandaid off by discussing Star Wars first and foremost. Turns out someone is a Reylo, someone else didn’t love The Rise of Skywalker‘s ending, and we all agree that Baby Yoda is the best thing since Ewoks.

Unpopular Marvel Opinions

Anyone who knows us well, knows that the Geek Girls love Marvel. I mean, we host a weekly Marvel Twitter chat, so it’s definitely not a secret. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have some opinions about one of our top franchises. And apparently you all do, too.

One fan mentioned how they disliked the lack of Hulk in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. Their complaint centered around Hulk being underpowered, do you agree? Another friend (though Mike we might have to talk about that after these Simu comments) suggested Simu should keep his shirt on in Shang-Chi.

Officially, the Geek Girls do not support this statement. Simu has worked hard and should be allowed to show that off. What’s wrong with that?

Unpopular Opinions Team Cap

Unpopular Harry Potter Opinions

Sarah shared her favorite book is the “Prisoner of Azkaban,” but the movie was a letdown. Others agreed the movies were not all that great, the books being, as usual, a million times better.

Oh and yeah, we actually kinda liked the Crimes of Grindelwald but before you cast us out of Hogwarts, we all had some beef with it too! You’ll have to listen to find out.

Unpopular Disney Opinions

From Avatar (seriously just watch Pocahontas and Fern Gully) to the live-action Lion King and Maleficent, we do not hold back on what we think about these and other Disney projects.

Miscellaneous Opinions Because We Have A Lot

And then there are the opinions that don’t fit into any of the above categories, Ross & Rachel, Wonder Woman, Ghostbusters, and more. Someone had issues with “FRIENDS”? Say it ain’t so! But she did and we talked about it. In fact, I’m curious where you, our awesome listeners, stand on these topics. Leave us a comment or tweet with us!

Ep: 11 Black Widow and Morbius – The Latest Marvel News!

Black Widow and Morbius

Marvel Studios and Sony have given us new looks at both Black Widow and Morbius. The Black Widow was a special look while Morbius was the anticipated teaser. When it comes to anything Marvel, you know we had to deep dive and get to work breaking down what we saw.

Black Widow Special Look

The Black Widow special look gave fans a few new seconds of awesomeness from the upcoming Phase 4 film. Specifically, we see the World of Widows, Red Guardian, and Taskmaster in action.

Black Widow Trailer Breakdown

It’s exciting to think Natasha and her family will have to face Widows, fighters with their skillset. But more terrifying for her will be Taskmaster. For those curious as to why his fighting styles seem so familiar…we love you, but read a comic book!

Black Widow Comics to Read Before The Movie

The short answer is Taskmaster can ahem master, any physical skillset of his opponents. To fully appreciate what Black Widow is up against, see the comics listed in the above post. This baddie has some serious potential and we hope Marvel won’t kill him off at the end of this movie.

Yeah, we are still a bit salty about Hela. But can she really die? I mean she is the mistress of Hel, so…

Black Widow and Morbius

Morbius

A little background on Morbius. Dr. Michael Morbius creates a cure for his rare blood disease that turns him into a living vampire, with superhuman powers and bloodlust. Like a real vampire, Morbius needs to drink blood to survive. Unlike a real one, once he regains his senses and transforms back into his human state he feels guilt and remorse.

Morbius is a classic complicated Marvel villain. You want to hate him but part of you can’t.

Black Widow and Morbius

We got a glimpse of Hunger, another living vampire but without the guilt or shame. He is like the other side of a coin when it comes to Morbius. Ultimately, he will end up being the big bad of the film.

At the end Vulture appears, rocking his prison garb we last saw him in in Spider-Man Homecoming. With Vulture, rumored J. Jonah Jameson, and the mention of Spider-Man being a murder, this could be Sony’s way of tying their films into the MCU. Something we as fans would love to see.

All of these bread crumbs are fueling our speculation that the Sinister Six could be coming int he future. They already have several players in the game, it just makes sense. Trust us Sony, we drink and we know things.

Marvel Movie News

Black Widow is in theaters May 1, 2020

Morbius is in theaters July 31, 2020

Hawkeye, the Disney+ show is on hold as of right now due to scheduling conflicts.

Ep: 10 Schitt’s Creek Final Season

Schitt's Creek Final Season

Schitt’s Creek final season has officially begun and we couldn’t be more in love with what we have seen so far. David as a bridezilla, Stevie in her maid of honor duties, and Alexis being well Alexis.

Why We Love Schitt's Creek

Related: Love Schitt’s Creek like we do? Listen to our previous episode Why We Love Schitt’s Creek

Is there anything more awkward yet hilarious than a David and Alexis apology? I don’t think so. As Stevie said, it was like watching a train wreck, and I laughed so hard.

Another favorite moment, particularly of Jana’s, was Alexis describing her flying experiences. First of all, she has clearly NEVER flown anything other than first class. Second, she claims she would rather sleep at the airport for a month than apologize to David.

If you have ever had to spend any amount of time in an airport due to a delay or canceled flight you know how miserable it is. Alexis could not handle it. Although thinking about it, maybe they should do some Schitt’s Creek shorts and this would be one of the episodes.

Moira taking over the social media for Interflix was genius. I wish Catherine O’Hara would take over the official Schitt’s Creek account as herself or as Moira. According to this tweet, it looks like they’ve asked and she has declined.

Talking about spouses, poor Ted who is not Ken! Coffee is needed clearly

Why We Love Schitt’s Creek

With Season 6 of “Schitt’s Creek” coming up, we had to dedicate this episode to why we love the show. From David to Moira, here are some reasons why we are obsessed. Let’s get checked into the Rosebud Motel.

Why We Love Schitt's Creek

Who on Schitt’s Creek would we hang out with?

We both agree that it would be a dream to hang out with the cast of “Schitt’s Creek,” either as their characters or who they are in real life. David would be our go-to bestie for sure. His sarcasm and wit make him ideal for our friends’ group. Dan Levy also speaks to me on a personal level with how much he loathes people coughing while traveling.

While David would be our bestie, we see ourselves like Stevie. Less fashionable than David with all the same sass and disdain. Either way we go, I bet there would be a lot of wine drinking and judging going on.

As much as Moira might not be the person you want to hang-out with, she has some of the best shade of the entire show. Where do you think David got it from? Also, Catherine O’Hara is amazing and I will hear no complaints.

5 of the Best Schitt’s Creek Quotes

“Let’s go. I’ve had enough waking hours for one day.”  Moira Rose

“I have my own holiday tradition. It’s like the 12 Days of Christmas, but it’s one day with 12 bottles of wine.” — Stevie Budd

“I plan on popping a pill, crying a bit, and falling asleep early.” — David Rose

“You know what, David, you get murdered first for once.”  Alexis Rose

“You’re my Mariah Carey.”  Patrick Brewer

Honorable mention to the Schitt’s Creek sign; don’t worry it’s his sister!
