Dee Bradley Baker Young Jedi Adventures Interview

Dee talked Nubs teaming up with the Bad Batch, creatures, snacks, sabers, and more! And friends, if you’ve ever wanted to hear a Tauntaun voiced by the man who makes the Clone Troopers sound so cool, then you’ve come to the right place!

There are a lot of lessons to be learned by the Young Jedi and the kiddos watching at home. Which one do you think is the most important that Nubs and the audience learned?

Dee: Well, I think the biggest lesson for me that Nubs or that any young person can learn is to trust yourself. It’s to realize that you have superpowers but you’re going to have difficulties and bumps in the road, but that you can rely on yourself and your family and your friends around you to move your life and to move your situation forward. There’s good reason to be optimistic and that there’s someone there that can help you if you need help. All you’ve got to do is ask for it.

Which Star Wars creature would you like Nubs to meet?

Dee: I want Nubs to meet a Tauntaun. Tauntauns are my favorite creature in Star Wars. I think it might be my favorite character in all of Star Wars. [Laughs] Because you meet the Tauntaun at the very beginning of the Empire Strikes Back, which was my favorite Star Wars movie and I think it was my favorite Star Wars experience.

Ep: 20 The Weekly Bugle Vol 2 | The Mandalorian, Helstrom, & More

The Weekly Bugle Vol 2

Hey friends! Welcome to this weeks The Weekly Bugle Vol 2. We have a lot to discuss including the premiere of Baby Yoda Season 2… I mean The Mandalorian Season 2, Helstrom, Ant-Man 3, and more!

weekly bugle vol 2

The Weekly Bugle Vol 2

Spoilers ahead if you haven’t seen Season 2 Episode One The Marshal or Helstrom.

The Mandalorian Season 2 The Marshal

There were a lot of Easter eggs hiding in this episode and it ends with a pretty big surprise–Boba Fett! Earlier in the episode we see Cobb Vanth wearing Boba Fett’s armor which had fans anticipating some information on the original Star Wars Mandalorian.

We didn’t have to wait long. At the very end of the episode, a man is seen watching from a sand dune. It is revealed to be Temuera Morrison, who played Jango Fett in Star Wars Attack of the Clones. He has also voiced Boba Fett in the past. Boba is a clone of Jango… Boba survived the Sarlacc Pit.

One of our second favorite Easter Eggs was actually a pearl, a Krayt Dragon pearl to be exact. Not only are the pearls highly valuable some can also contain Kyber Crystals, which as you know are needed to power lightsabers.

And as always, Baby Yoda is as cute as ever. Sorry Baby Groot, but we would use you for a toothpick if it meant saving Baby Yoda’s life.

Helstrom

Helstrom, a Marvel TV show on Hulu, is about Daimon and Ana Helstrom, two half-demon half-human reluctant superheroes who are trying to save the world from their father and his kind. Their father isn’t your run-of-the-mill demon either, he just so happens to be Satan himself.

The show has quickly become a favorite of ours with its witty dialogue and great action scenes. It’s the kind of rare show that gets the point without sacrificing plot points or character development. It is dark and rated MA so definitely not one for the kids.

Speaking of dark, we’ve been called cold-blooded for our assessment of how a certain thing was treated in the show, but hey, it’s a demon, and you gotta do what you gotta do.

With Daimon’s comic book ties to Ghost Rider, Blade, The Winter Soldier, and more, we are hoping Ana and Daimon come to the MCU and bring their fiery personalities (pun intended) with them.

Helstrom TV Show Review

Ghost Rider

Speaking of Ghost Rider, talks have resumed in the fandom world about who should play him. Some say Nicolas Cage, others Gabriel Luna who played him in Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, and then there is Keanu Reeves.

Whether it is Ghost Rider or Deacon Frost, or someone else yet to be named, we hope to see Keanu join the MCU.

Ant-Man 3

According to the official Marvel website, Scott Lang’s stint in the Quantum Realm is a story for another time. This could mean a flashback scene either at the beginning of Ant-Man 3, or as a post-credit in Black Widow, The Multiverse of Madness, or some other upcoming Marvel Phase 4 offering.

With Kang the Conqueror being the baddie for this one and time travel his thing, this could be how they show Kang has been lurking in the QR for a while now, just waiting to strike.

Scott Lang Quantum Realm

James Gunn

In other fandom news, James Gunn in a recent interview said that a Superman movie was on the table before he went with Suicide Squad. We don’t know about you but Henry deserves his own movie or the be released to come to the MCU.

He even shared that Kevin Feige knows who the villain is for Suicide Squad. We know that man can keep a secret!

Also, Amy Adams’ Lois Lane joins the Natalie Portman Jane Foster list for us.

The 90s Are Coming

It’s been a week of 90s news. From Animaniacs and Tiny Toons, to The Power Rangers and Saved By The Bell, a lot of our favorites are coming back to TV.

TBH we only care about Saved By The Bell because they have the original cast- smart move! We also can’t even say the word Animaniacs without singing the theme song.

Maybe the 90s will save us from 2020?

Saved by the bell Zack Attack

Songbird

Or maybe the 90s can at least save us from this mess.

Songbird is a big fat N-O. No. Negative. Nope. Michael Bay needs to read the room, nay the universe. No one, I repeat NO ONE wants a flipping film about dealing with Covid. NO. ONE.

Ep. 16: Friend, Marry, Kill Star Wars Edition

Friend Marry Kill Star Wars Edition

Welcome back! Just in time for May the 4th be with you, we are back with friend, marry, kill, Star Wars edition! The Marvel episode was so much fun we had to do it again. Funny enough, one person makes both lists in the same spot! We will give you 3 guesses who that is and the first 2 don’t count.

Friend Marry Kill Star Wars Edition

Friend, Marry, Kill Star Wars Edition

The rules are simple. Friend means you are meh on the character or the storyline. Marry they are perfection and should be treasured forever. Kill they are the worst, the absolute worst. You got the idea, so let’s introduce our special guests.

Meghan Cooper is the creative force behind JaMonkey and DisneyWishful. She is a good friend of ours and fellow geek. From Disney to Star Wars, Harry Potter to Marvel, she loves her fandoms! You can find her on social @JaMonkey.

Listen to more: Unpopular Opinions: Fandom Edition

Star Wars Friend

We all had our lists ready to go but Meghan can out the gate with some shockers! I was glad I was sitting down because I felt some disturbances in the Force.

Subscribe to the Geek Girls Universe Podcast

Shockers aside, we all felt that The Clone Wars (not including the latest season and Ahsoka, The Clone Troopers, and Maul) are okay. Sometimes the back and forth of the storyline and heavy focus on disliked characters from the prequels detract from the overall greatness.

Don’t hate us too much, we like them we just don’t love them enough to marry, unless we could tweak a bit.

Star Wars Resistance also made the list. Kaz is whiney like Iron Fist and you know how we feel about Danny Rand. And following the greatness that is Star Wars Rebels in the animated Star Wars world, it just felt like a so-so show.

About Meghan’s list though… I don’t want to spoil anything, but you might want to say a certain compound word that starts with m and ends with -er when you hear it.

Star Wars Marry

This category was just a lovefest. The original trilogy, Rogue One, Baby Yoda, Star Wars Rebels, what is not to love? Carrie Fisher is a Queen, and we will hurt anyone that comes for Baby Yoda.

Also, are we all agreed that even when we find out The Child’s name, we are still calling him Baby Yoda?

We would love to know where you stand on the Ahsoka rumors for The Mandalorian. The three of us are opinionated about this character and the casting, after all, this is Ahsoka freaking Tano, arguably the best character to come out the prequels.

Star Wars Kill

Ah, the meat of this game. And like I mentioned before, I bet you can guess who made it on the list.

Padme and Anakin. Shocker right? Where to start on this one? The poor acting, storylines, the weird romance between a teen and a third grader? However you want to look at it, it was a hot, hot mess.

Friend Marry Kill Star Wars Padme

To be fair, to the character of Anakin, I liked him a lot better in The Clone Wars when he was voiced by Matt Lanter. Padme is also slightly, better in The Clone Wars, but legit only in small doses.

Jar Jar… there is nothing to say here that you don’t already also think. No offense to the actor, it wasn’t his fault. The Gungan haunts us, specifically Jana (and me) whenever I happen to also be on Star Tours with her.

It wasn’t just hate on the prequels day though, you might be surprised who else got the axe from Meghan.

And even more opinions.

After cleansing the galaxy of our least favorite characters, casting options, and weak storylines, we discussed the future of Star Wars. From the upcoming Disney Plus shows to things we dream of seeing, the future of the universe is bright. At the end of that, day it includes more Baby Yoda so how bad can it be?

Ep. 12: Unpopular Opinions – Fandom Edition

unpopular opinions

Have you ever been told you have unpopular opinions? If the answer is “no,” you either never speak out in the public domain, or maybe you misunderstood the question. Let us rephrase, have you ever been harassed online for your opinion on something?

There it is. We have ALL been judged for our opinions, no matter how innocuous they may be. We get flack for things all the time. Ashley’s personal favorite was being told she only liked Solo: A Star Wars Story because she’s a female. The movie is predominately male and one of the strong female characters dies while the other joins the dark side. Sounds like a total feminine movie? *Scratches head*

Unpopular Opinions: Fandom Edition

On this episode of the Geek Girls Universe Podcast, we decided to dive into all those “unpopular opinions” we have about fandoms. We asked you, our friends and fans, what your unpopular opinions are and we got some good ones!

Thank you to all who were brave enough to share their opinions, even when facing the trolls of certain fandoms *cough* star wars *cough*

Honestly, it is the toxicity of the Star Wars fandom that inspired this episode. So let’s get this out of the way…it’s okay to be a Reylo, and it’s okay not to be a Reylo. What is not cool is bashing people on one side of that fence or the other.

unpopular opinions

We are joined this episode by our friend Sarah Gilliland of Sarah in the Suburbs. Sarah is a mom of 3 and has been a geek for a long time, but only recently fully embraced her geekiness. She runs the Facebook group The Wizarding World Moms, which is a non-judgmental place for all Potterheads raising their own Potterheads.

Unpopular Star Wars Opinions

Pull up a chair and let’s get comfy. We ripped the bandaid off by discussing Star Wars first and foremost. Turns out someone is a Reylo, someone else didn’t love The Rise of Skywalker‘s ending, and we all agree that Baby Yoda is the best thing since Ewoks.

Unpopular Marvel Opinions

Anyone who knows us well, knows that the Geek Girls love Marvel. I mean, we host a weekly Marvel Twitter chat, so it’s definitely not a secret. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have some opinions about one of our top franchises. And apparently you all do, too.

One fan mentioned how they disliked the lack of Hulk in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. Their complaint centered around Hulk being underpowered, do you agree? Another friend (though Mike we might have to talk about that after these Simu comments) suggested Simu should keep his shirt on in Shang-Chi.

Officially, the Geek Girls do not support this statement. Simu has worked hard and should be allowed to show that off. What’s wrong with that?

Unpopular Opinions Team Cap

Unpopular Harry Potter Opinions

Sarah shared her favorite book is the “Prisoner of Azkaban,” but the movie was a letdown. Others agreed the movies were not all that great, the books being, as usual, a million times better.

Oh and yeah, we actually kinda liked the Crimes of Grindelwald but before you cast us out of Hogwarts, we all had some beef with it too! You’ll have to listen to find out.

Unpopular Disney Opinions

From Avatar (seriously just watch Pocahontas and Fern Gully) to the live-action Lion King and Maleficent, we do not hold back on what we think about these and other Disney projects.

Miscellaneous Opinions Because We Have A Lot

And then there are the opinions that don’t fit into any of the above categories, Ross & Rachel, Wonder Woman, Ghostbusters, and more. Someone had issues with “FRIENDS”? Say it ain’t so! But she did and we talked about it. In fact, I’m curious where you, our awesome listeners, stand on these topics. Leave us a comment or tweet with us!

Ep. 8: Disney Plus! Baby Yoda is Everything

Disney Plus

Disney Plus: Baby Yoda is Everything

Disney Plus is now streaming and we are obsessed. We have both been binging, um, researching? to find the best, must-watch shows and movies available right now!

The Mandalorian

First of all Baby Yoda… Baby Not Yoda… whatever you want to call him, is everything. He coos, we sigh. He blinks, we swoon. Basically, it’s Baby Yoda’s galaxy and we are just living in it.

Sure there is a TON of amazing content on Disney+ but we had to spend time gushing over The Child and the overall awesomeness that is “The Mandalorian.” Episodes 3 & 4 might be our favorites.

Baby-Yoda

The writing, direction, characters, “The Mandalorian” has it all. And it has done something that seemed impossible a year ago–it has united the Star Wars fandom. Everyone agrees this show is epic. So whether you like the original trilogy, prequels, or new school Star Wars, we can all agree “The Mandalorian” is boss.

The World According to Jeff Goldblum

This show combines the quirky, inquisitive Jeff with the educational powerhouse of National Geographic. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I watched episode one about shoes, but wow. Who knew there were sneaker cons where people are dropping 30 GRAND on a pair of shoes.

World According to Jeff Goldblum

Each episode Jeff tackles a topic that seems pretty simple- shoes, jeans, tattoos, etc. But the viewer gets to learn the history behind these things and how they have affected our world. Surprisingly enough, it is super entertaining. If you haven’t watched yet, try it out.

High School Musical The Musical The Series

That is a mouthful but the show is awesome. It doesn’t matter if you are a Senior Wildcat or freshman, this is the show for you.

Disney + Original Movies

Noelle and Lady and The Tramp debuted with the service as the first of many to come original movies.

Lady and The Tramp is a beautiful reimagining of the classic animated film. The dogs were rescues and all were adopted by the end of filming. A happy ending within a happy ending? Ah, Disney magic.

Noelle is a Christmas film starring Anna Kendrick. She brings her usual brand of pep and kindness. This is sure to become a favorite holiday film and the message it brings is a much-needed one.

Disney Plus Noelle

Disney Plus Throwbacks

Ok yes, Disney+ has great content for the whole family but we are here to say Disney Plus was made for us. I’m talking the 80s, 90s Disney kids. The moms, dads, grownups that are paying for this service. Why? Did you check the throwback section?

They have got all the great Disney Channel shows and movies plus old school cartoons like “X-Men,” “Tail Spin,” and “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers.” My kids like those shows, but they don’t love them. They don’t appreciate the fact that they are included with Disney+ as I do. You understand.

Chip-Dale-Rescue-Rangers

What’s Next On Disney+?

A new season of “The Mandalorian,” as well as new episodes of “The World According to Jeff Goldblum,” “Disney Imagineering,” and more. If you know us geeks though then you know we can barely deal with the anticipation of the upcoming Marvel series.

LOKI. That’s the sentence. *Sigh* Moving on, Marvel’s What If, Ms. Marvel, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, WandaVision, and so many more.

Loki

There are also new Pixar shorts, shows, and films to look forward to as well. We are also hoping for more old school releases, like The House of Mouse. Keep sending in those suggestions via the app to Disney+!

Ep. 2: A Galaxy Far, Far Away

In this episode, Ashley and Jana talk about all the latest Star Wars news from The Rise of Skywalker and Disney+ Shows to Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge at both Disney parks.

Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge

First up, is Star Wars Episode 9, The Rise Of Skywalker. There is a lot to unpack about the final Star Wars movie of the original saga.

What exactly does the title mean? We have some theories. Everyone is excited to see the Knights of Ren are finally getting their big-screen debut. Emperor Palpatine is back but does that mean as a Darth Maul kind of hybrid or as a force ghost?

We can’t talk Rise of Skywalker without discussing Rey. There are a lot of theories floating around about Rey and her parentage. Is Rey a Kenobi, descendant of Qi’Ra, or is there something else going on with her? Will Rey ultimately be fighting for the Lightside or the Darkside? And if you’re a Kylo Rey Stan you might not like what we have to say about that.

Disney Plus is getting The Mandalorian as well as The Clone Wars and an Obi-Wan show starring Ewan McGregor himself. The rumors have been proven true and we couldn’t be more thrilled. More casting news includes Ming-Na Wen joining The Mandalorian and Ahsoka Lives!

Blast off to Galaxy’s Edge with us and learn what Batuu is like on both coasts. Jana shares her tips for making the most of your trip while Ashley tries not to be super jealous.

Have you visited Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge yet? Got a theory about Rey? Let us know!
